The MSR AutoFlow Gravity Microfilter utilizes the same innovative Hollow Fiber technology found in MSR’s award-winning HyperFlow Microfilter but offers it in a completely pump-free format. Perfect for family camping or base camp usage the filter's reservoir can be filled with dirty water and suspended from a branch allowing gravity to do the rest!
The ground-breaking Hollow Fiber Technology used by the AutoFlow Gravity Filter enables it to efficiently and effectively filter up to 1.75 liters of water per minute! The 0.2 Micron cartridge is completely field maintainable and long lasting effectively filtering up to 1000 liters of water before needing replaced.
Rather than relying on the pumping required of most filters the filter allows water to run from its collection "bag" through an output hose and the Hollow Fiber filter without any hands-on effort. A connection at the bottom of the output hose allows water to be filtered directly into the water container of your choosing.
NOTE: The AutoFlow Gravity Filter is effective against protozoa bacteria and particulates. It is NOT effective against viruses.
The MSR AutoFlow Gravity Microfilter is available in 2L (weighs 10 ounces) and 4L (11.1 ounce) size options.

- Great filter for BWCA trips
Likes: The outfitter my sister and I used for our last BWCA trip provided us with one of these- we loved it! It turned the rusty/tannin stained lake water into tapwater quality water. Very simple to use and to maintain.
Dislikes: You do have to backflush often, especially if you are filtering from the lakes in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. It seems to clog up/get air bubbles in it that prevent good flow....but with some practice you learn to mitigate these issues. The only other thing I see as a drawback is using this on backpacking trips.....it is sort of bulky (4L model), so I may go to using less bulky setup for those trips unless I am going on a trip with less water stops and I need to tank up fast. I should also mention this year I am venturing into a part of the BWCA that burned a few years ago ...so I'm hoping I can find a sturdy enough tree to hang this from. Other than these few things it's a great filter if you don't like making multiple trips to get water and/or you have a group of up to 4 people to keep hydrated.
