A unique shape-shifting rainfly lets you decide how the Mountain Hardwear Shifter 3 tent can serve you best. With dual doors a roomy interior watertight construction and an included footprint the Shifter 3 is a great option for 3-season backpacking or camping.

The Shifter 3 weighs in at 5 pounds 9 ounces and offers 43 square feet of usable interior space. Dual vestibules combine to provide additional sheltered space for wet gear and muddy boots. Clip construction makes it easy to connect the fabric body of the Shifter 3 to the DAC press-fit aluminum poles.

Mesh and nylon construction in the walls of the tent body combats the build-up of condensation and offers maximum ventilation. The 75D Polyester Taffeta rainfly has a PU coating to ensure weather protection. In fact Mountain Hardwear guarantees watertight construction; the taped seams and welded construction of the Shifter 3 have been tested in a custom-made "rain room" which subjects the tent to 1200 inches of wind-driven rain over the course of 24 hours. The panels on the tent body alternate between mesh and polyester and the rainfly can be configured to make either side the tent your “main” entry allowing you to choose between increased privacy or maximum ventilation.

A custom-fit footprint is included to protect the floor of the Mountain Hardwear Shifter 3 from the wear and tear of rocks exposed roots mud and ground water. If you want to save weight you can even set up the tent fly with the poles and the footprint to create a stripped down shelter that weighs in at just 3 pounds 10 ounces.

  • Split solid canopy/breathable mesh construction for both privacy and ventilation
  • Fly configuration offers large front-door vestibule for easy entry/exit and "shouldered" back door vestibule for gear storage
  • 2 mesh/canopy doors with dual-slider zipper for easy entry and exit
  • Footprint included

Large shoulder vestibule!
Reviewed by Kelly H. - September 29, 2018

Likes: Really like the central 2 doors and large vestibule area. The shoulder vestibule is quite large and handy, for storing packs, shoes, etc. Tent is easy to set up. Purchased it for my 10 yr. old Cub Scout for camping. He sets it up independently. Good amount of internal pockets and attic storage

Dislikes: None so far. Will test water proofing this weekend.

Easy to set up
Reviewed by Mr. Dude - June 13, 2017

Likes: I have the older Drifter 3 version of this tent that continues to be a great tent. I like this tent for the easy 2 pole set up. Mountain Hardwear has done a great job keeping the rain out. This tent is very spacious inside, enough room for 2+ people and gear.

Dislikes: I don't care for the "shouldered vestibule" in the back. I would rather have the traditional vestibules offered in the Drifter 3. It's not a big enough deterrent to not buy, just a personal preference.
