With dual
adjacent doors that provide an expansive view of the outside world, a roomy
interior and watertight construction, the Mountain Hardwear Optic 2.5 tent is
an excellent choice for 3-season backpacking and camping.

With dual adjacent doors, a roomy interior and watertight construction, the Mountain Hardwear Optic 2.5 tent is an excellent choice for 3-season backpacking and camping. Easy to set up and boasting user-friendly features like reflective color-coded starter tabs on the rainfly and canopy to make pitching a breeze, the Optic 2.5 delivers unique features and durability at a budget-friendly price.

The Optic 2.5 weighs in at 5 pounds, 13 ounces and offers 37 square feet of usable interior space perfect for two adult campers "plus" (your four-legged friend or small child). Dual vestibules combine to provide additional sheltered space for wet gear and muddy boots. Clip construction makes it easy to connect the fabric body of the Optic 2.5 to the DAC Pressfit aluminum poles. Mountain Hardwear guarantees watertight construction; the taped seams and welded construction of the Optic 2.5 have been tested in a custom-made "rain room" that subjects the tent to 1200 inches of wind-driven rain over the course of 24 hours.

Polyester knit mesh construction in the tent body combats the build-up of condensation and offers maximum ventilation. The stand-out feature in the Optic 2.5, though, is its adjacent dual doors that roll back to provide an expansive view in fair weather. When weather turns less friendly, the 75D polyester taffeta rainfly with a PU treatment keeps you protected. And you’ll always be organized with internal pockets that allow you to stow small essential gear with you in the tent.

Optional accessories (sold separately) are available to further make the Mountain Hardwear Optic 2.5 tent your home away from home: a custom-fit footprint to protect the floor of the tent against rocks, exposed roots, mud and ground water, as well as rectangular and triangular gear lofts can be purchased.

  • Industry leading DAC Pressfit poles
  • Doors on adjoining sides roll back to offer huge view and easy access
  • Two mesh doors with dual-slider zipper for easy entry and exit
  • Dual vestibule design creates a dry entry into tent and room for gear storage
  • Internal pockets help keep you organized
  • Reflective color coded starter tab on the rainfly and canopy make pitching easy
  • Optional rectangular or triangular gear loft stows gear off the floor (sold separately)

Roomy one person tent
Reviewed by Richard B. - June 3, 2018

Likes: Great stargazing

Dislikes: Too narrow for two adults with 30" pads

Reviewed by Brett M. - May 7, 2018

Likes: Very spacious, easy (and quick) to set up, love the 2 doors giving you a great view! I also like the ability to keep my pack inside or in one of the large vestibules if we have our dogs with us.

Dislikes: The only think I'm not in love with is the weight. It is a little on the heavy side for a backpacking tent but I knew that going into it. The trade off for the extra room is worth it though in my opinion!

A versatile and easy to set up tent.
Reviewed by Nate R. - April 5, 2017

Likes: Dual vestibules give you great dry storage capacity. Great headroom and more length than most of the other tents in this class (I'm 6'3" 250 lbs and fits me very comfortably). I ordered the ground pad which fits perfectly and aligns with the tent stake holes.

Dislikes: A bit on the heavy side for backpacking but doable.

Reviewed by Inside Edge Member - September 5, 2014

Likes: Love the open-mesh design and the tent is super-roomy for taller people. I'm 6'4" and had no issues. I didn't get a chance to test the rain-fly. I like the large, easy-open doors too. Lots of vertical space as well.

Dislikes: The tent is bit on the heavy side but I guess that's the price you pay for the extra space. Still, you'd think with the amount of mesh it could have been lighter. *Note: I had a small issue with the footprint being too large for the tent so I returned it.
