A highly versatile, aerobic-worthy insulated jacket, the reversible Berghaus Men’s Vapourlight Hydroloft Hoody weighs in at just 7.9 ounces and packs down to the size of a grapefruit, making it perfect for trail runners, adventure racers, or ounce-counters looking for “just in case” warmth.
A highly versatile, synthetic layering piece, the reversible Berghaus Men’s Vapourlight HydroLoft Hoody weighs less than eight ounces, while delivering an excellent balance of warmth, wind resistance and breathability. Let’s take a closer look at its fit and features.
The jacket utilizes a hybrid design and does so in a reversible fashion. So the side facing out right now is actually warmer than the other side, which I will show you in a moment. It has got this smooth face fabric here which has a high level of wind resistance. And, inside the jacket, you have got Berghaus’ HydroLoft elite insulation.
So it is a synthetic insulation about 40 grams of it, not a whole lot. This is kind of an aerobic style layering piece. So just that little bit of bolstered warmth. On the other side of the jacket you have got a more breathable face and so when you are working hard building up heat it is a bit more ideal to actually have that facing out so you can push the warmer air outside of the jacket.
Because it is a synthetic insulation, regardless, it retains its ability to keep you warm even if it is wet. And it dries much faster than down insulation would.
In keeping with kind of that athletic design here, you have got a regular fit. You have got room to put some layers beneath it, but not heavy layers by any means. You have got elasticity at the cuffs, also at the hem and also at the hood. Hold this over, you can see I have got elasticity there, a full length zipper that gives that a nice, close fit. So there is no real adjustability there. But because of the stretchiness, that bonding at that is at each of those points, you get a nice comfortable fit regardless.
This side of the jacket, the warmer side, does have two high set hand warmer pockets. They are zippered pockets, the other side more streamlined, does not have any pockets at all.
Berghaus does include what looks like a very small stuff sack for this jacket, that is because it really does stuff down that small, basically the size of an orange. And at a weight of just eight ounces, you have got a wonderful layering option that is easy to throw in your pack and have at the ready for any number of outdoor aerobic activities.
