A 15D Pertex Quantum shell and 800-fill traceable down enable the Patagonia Men’s Ultralight Down Vest to deliver warmth in a streamlined 6.3 ounce profile. Variegated channel construction and sewn-through baffles offer low-bulk warmth for moderate temperatures.
Ultra light, ultra packable and ultra versatile, the Patagonia Men’s Ultralight Down Vest is an excellent layering option in variable conditions. Let’s take a look at its features.
Starting with the materials on the vest we have got a 15 D Pertex Quantum Y yarn fabric. It is a super light and durable rip stop material that creates the lightest offered vest in Patagonia’s lineup. The fabric is also blue sign approved so it is sustainably built and constructed. So it is a nice lightweight material, durable, abrasion resistant nylon there.
The insulation on the inside of the vest is an 800 fill European goose down insulation. It is a traceable down insulation so that just means that it can be traced back to geese that we never force fed or live plucked for harvesting. So, again, sustainability is the key with Patagonia’s Ultralight Down Vest.
Some of the features we have on the jacket or on the vest include a full length front zipper with a little storm flap behind there so you get good draft protection on the chest in the core of the vest. It does come all the way up to this nice collar with kind of a kissing well zipper garage, so it gives good next to skin comfort, won’t chafe or cause any abrasion, so nice feature there.
We do have two hand warmer pockets, so two zipped hand warmer pockets on the vest, nice sizable pockets right there with zippers for security. And the left pocket will reverse on itself and create a nice compact stuff size. You can use that as a travel pillow, attach the vest to a harness if you are climbing or whatever you might like to do with it, but it does reverse on itself, nice an compact size there.
The channel, the baffle channel construction is pretty nice. You have got this very dated baffling so there is multiple different sizes of baffles. You have got really good stabilization of the down to keep the insulation in play and provide a bit more warmth than some traditional baffle styles. On the sides of the vest we do have smaller baffles. They are going to provide shaping and insulation without overheating, so in those areas where you may get warmer, you have got a little bit less insulation that is going to grant better breathability and better overall thermal control.
The fit of this jacket or this vest is fairly regular. You have got a nice kind of lightweight feel. It doesn’t really feel like you are wearing much. It is a very low bulk, but it is not super constricting so you have definitely got room for some layers, whether that would be a base layer, a flannel underneath or anything like that. You can certainly layer easily on top of and underneath this vest.
We do have a slightly longer hem and a dropped hem in the back for some styling if you are wearing this as an outerwear piece.
So there you have it. It is the Patagonia Men’s Ultralight Down Vest for those days, those summit pushes that blend four seasons into a single adventure, the Patagonia Ultralight Vest will certainly offer you great insulation, mobility and breathability.
