Employing Berghaus’ performance oriented body mapping, the Scorch Hybrid Jacket is a versatile, lightweight layering piece. Lofted fabric on the main body of the jacket delivers excellent warmth, while stretch side panels maximize breathability and allow the jacket to mirror your every movement. Let’s take a closer look at its fit and features.
The main body of the jacket is constructed of polartech thermal pro polyester velour fabric. This gridded and lofted fabrication really, really does deliver excellent, but lightweight warmth and does so in a low profile manner. It does also give it a distinctive look and adds a touch of style.
Under the arms on the side panels the jacket utilizes polartech power dry high efficiency fabric. So here you have got a lot of stretch. You have got a high measure of breathability. So while that face fabric on the main body is keeping you warm, if you are getting too warm, if you need to push warm air out of the jacket, that happens here through those side panels. It also really lets you move in this jacket completely uninhibited. So if you had that fabric the whole way around, may not give you quite the same athletic performance that you are getting because of that hybrid construction.
So fairly close, comfortable fit to this piece. Again, as low profile as it is and the fact that it is often going to serve as a mid layer piece, it is not anticipating you wearing a whole lot beneath it. Certainly t-shirts, base layers, low profile mid layers, but not a whole lot else. But you could definitely put warmer pieces over top of it, be that, you know, an insulted down jacket or a hard shell to bump up that protection from the elements.
At the cuffs you do have a really nice fitted design here. So some elasticity certainly built in, but a nice, snug fit there, without being uncomfortable. Also thumb holes built into those sleeves, which is always a nice touch on a layering piece. It lets you extend the coverage of the piece, bolster that warmth out across the hand and do away with any kind of gapping you might have if you were wearing this with gloves, so kind of keeps cold air from having any way to sneak into the interior of the jacket.
At the hem you also have some nice stretch and elasticity built into the jacket. So it fits close. It fits nicely, but also has that stretch if you were wearing more beneath it.
As far as pocketing is concerned on the jacket, you do have two kind of deep pockets here on then front, so a nice place to keep your hands warm or stash gear. They are set high, so if you were wearing a backpack or did have on a climbing harness, you could still get more to those pockets.
There is one other small zippered pocket here on the sleeve, just kind of keeps keys, cash, other small essentials close at hand.
The Berghaus Men’s Scorch Hybrid Jacket, it looks great. You could wear this jacket all day every day, whether you needed technical performance or not. But when you need it for any kind of outdoor activities, you have got warmth, you have got that ability to move within this jacket. Really gives it great versatility.
