Durable, highly breathable and weather-resistant, Outdoor Research Men’s Neoplume Pants excel in alpine conditions and are perfect for cold weather activities like winter backpacking, snowshoeing and ski touring. Body-mapped PrimaLoft Silver Eco insulation provides comfortable warmth.
When the temperatures drop and tense cold sets in, the Outdoor Research Men’s Neoplume Pants are an excellent option for layering up in those cold climates. Let’s take a look at their fit and some of their features.
The materials we have with the Neoplume Pants are 100 percent nylon rip stop, 30 D fabric on the outside. So you have got good durability and lightweight materials on the outside. We do have a Pertex Endurance fabric. It is also a 30 D fabric, but it adds a little bit more durability in the areas where you would need it. So you have that in the seat of the pants, in the knees as well as the scuff guards at the bottom of the pants. So you have got good durability and lightweight throughout with those extra enhancements where you might need some extra durability. On the inside it is a nylon taffeta material, so it is a little bit softer against the skin. So if you are not wearing any pants underneath, if these are your base layer, it will lay softly against the skin and it will be pretty comfortable.
The insulation in play is a Primaloft Silver eco insulation. So it is a really lightweight and compressible synthetic insulation and it is pretty sustainable. It is made from 60 percent post consumer recycled material, so it is an eco friendly insulation as well. A nice part about that synthetic insulation is that if it were to get wet or maintain, get some moisture in there, it does maintain its insulation and its loft, because it is that synthetic material and it will dry out pretty quickly so you can have confident warmth throughout your adventure with that Primaloft Silver eco insulation.
Some of the features to mention on these pants, there are a water and wind resistant pant, but they are not waterproof by any means, so keep that in mind if you are wearing them as an outer layer. We do have some pockets on the pants. We have two front hand pockets and they are zippered. One of those pockets has a double sided zipper so you an reverse the pants on themselves and kind of make it into its own little stuff sack.
We also have a small thigh pocket on the right side so you have got nice easy access to some items on the thigh of the pants.
We have got a nice elastic waistband, so it gives a snug fit, but it is not restrictive. It gives you some nice stretchy material there to really help move with you and kind of form to your shape if you are in between sizing.
A nice feature we do have is a full length zipper on the side of the pants. So that goes top to bottom. There is kind of a Velcro closure at the top and a snap closure at the bottom so you can easily take these off if you needed to, you know, put them on easily if you wanted to add some warmth to your kit. So you have got really nice zippers on the sides of the pants as well.
We do have articulated knees and a gusseted crotch, so you get freedom of movement with the pants. It is very easy to move around in these pants while maintaining all of that insulation in those nice features that you want in a mid layer or an insulated pant.
These pants are a regular fit so they are not too tight, but they are not too loose either. I do have room to throw a base layer underneath or a lighter hiking pant if I want to, but not too much more room and you can easily throw a weatherproof shell on top.
At the opening of the pant there is a draw cord so you can get a nice proper and snug fit around the ankle. I am wearing a medium. It is a 32 inch waist with a 32 inch inseam and it fits pretty well. The waist is very comfortable with that elastic band. The length is a little shorter than what I normally wear, but as a base layer they would be just right.
Now check out our product page for the sizing information on other sizes in order to get the property fit for you.
So with those articulated knees and that gusseted crotch, full freedom of movement with the pants and with that light, but performance insulation, that Primaloft Silver insulation, these are a great base or mid layer pant for when those temperatures plummet. It is the Outdoor Research Men’s Neoplume Pants.
