Fully-insulated and highly weather-resistant, the Outdoor Research Men’s Diode Hooded Jacket delivers cold-weather performance that far surpasses most insulated jackets. Weather worn for skiing, alpine climbing, or snowshoeing, the Diode Hooded Jacket ensures that you stay warm, dry, and comfortable.
Body-mapped construction delivers appropriate performance to varying parts of your body. PrimaLoft Gold Down Blend insulation, a combination of 70% DWR-treated goose down and water-resistant synthetic fill, is used throughout the main body of the Diode Hooded Jacket to trap heat, maximize compressibility, keep weight to a minimum, and retain loft even in wet, damp conditions. To further bolster weather protection, Outdoor Research strategically utilizes synthetic insulation in the shoulders, hood, and waist, areas that are most exposed to the elements. In addition to the premium insulation, highly weather-resistant Pertex Endurance and Quantum fabrics are used on the face of the jacket to increase weather-worthiness.
The front zipper is a two-way, double separating zipper that provides venting option and also allows the coat to be used effectively as a cold-weather belay jacket. An internal front stormflap helps to keep cold air from finding its way past the zipper. The helmet-compatible hood is highly adjustable and has an integrated adjustable wire-brimmed halo that allows you to shape it to your liking. A drawcord hem and elastic cuffs with hook-and-loop tabs help you dial in fit.
Two toasty-warm hand pockets are set high on the front of the jacket so that you can access them even if you have on a climbing harness or a backpack. The left pocket also doubles as a stuff sack for the Diode Hooded Jacket. Additionally, there is a zippered chest pocket with a media pass-through, a zippered internal pocket, and two internal Shove-It pockets.
With a standard fit that allows you easily and comfortably layer beneath it, the Outdoor Research Men’s Diode Hooded jacket is available in your choice of size and color options

- Great all-around jacket!
Likes: I was looking for a late fall/winter jacket combo for the mid-Atlantic region, one that has a high warmth to weight ratio, good for travel, hiking, and still look good and functional for around town use. This one fits the bill! It has plenty of pockets for storage (chest pocket is a must for me), and hand pockets are positioned just fine despite it being advertised as a belay jacket (and with soft lining and insulation to keep hands warm, unlike some jackets that oddly have your hands on the outside of the insulation). It blocks wind extremely well, nicely water resistant with Pertex membrane, and is warm enough into the 30 deg. temp's. with t-shirt and long-sleeve shirt underneath (with walking activity). Don't know so much about standing still, but certainly you can layer up more. I am 6'0" 167 lbs with 32" waist, and found the Med. to be too tight around the hips/mid section, but form/correct fitting everywhere else. I replaced with a Large (sleeve length isn't that much longer), and it also allows more layering, but you can still throw a shell over it easily.
Dislikes: Hood is a bit large no matter what size jacket (in order to accommodate a helmet), but can be drawn down. Only thing keeping from 5 stars is I'd wish it had a little more insulation in the back and smaller-tooth zippers (perhaps then easier to open and close hand pockets), but these are small things compared to what you get with this jacket. Definitely glad I got it!
