Fully waterproof, breathable and durable enough for the trail, the Marmot Women’s PreCip Full Zip Pant is a versatile, lightweight option for hikers and backpackers seeking reliable protection from wet and windy weather.
The Marmot Women’s PreCip Full Zip pants are a great option for anyone who is looking for a fully waterproof pant that is easy to put on and take off and has a lot of adjustability. The stand out feature here and the thing to talk about with any waterproof material is how it keeps you dry. So the fabrics used here is Marmot’s Nanopro fabric. It is 100 percent nylon. It has got rip stop in there, so you are definitely protected from the elements with the waterproofing. But the rip stop gives durability, so they are certainly trail worthy.
These are the full zip version of the PreCip pants. So you have a nice zipper that runs all the way up to the top of the pant, all the way down to the bottom. And you do have a little snap closure on the bottom. On the top part of the zipper you have two pieces of Velcro. So you are definitely protected there. Like I said, they are really easy to put on and take off. So as you are hiking if you need to put them on really quickly you can put them on over your pants. They are certainly generous enough in the fit that you can move in them, that you can put them on over top of layers. And let’s say you are out for the day and you get home and you just want to take the pants off before you get into the house, before you get into the tent or in the shelter, that full zip is really easy to just unzip the pants, take them off, let them outside or outside of the tent and then you are dry underneath. So it is a great option for anyone looking for that sort of versatility.
The features here, starting a the top, they are pretty streamlined and simple, which keeps them really lightweight. You have an elastic draw cords at the top. There is no fly. There is no, you know, zipper or closure at the top, but you do have kind of the zippers on the sides. There is two zippered pockets here in the top. They are pretty small pockets and on the inside it is mesh material. So you can kind of use that as a vent if you want to, to open those up. There is kind of a storm flap in front of that zipper. And where you have the zipper on the sides, there is a bonded storm flap in front of that zipper, so it is actually pretty stiff. It definitely stays over top of that zipper, so you have got protection there.
And the moving down to the bottom, you have some adjustability in the bottom here and there is a nice snap closure at the bottom so they are not going to unzip on you while you are hiking. And there actually is a draw cord on the bottom of the pants, too, so if you want to, you can cinch that down either around your boots. If you are wearing them with gators they will work with gators over top or if you wear them, gators underneath, you can do that as well. So, as I said, it is a very generous cut in through the leg and especially in the bottom. You have got plenty of room there.
The fit and feel of these pants are exactly what I would expect from Marmot. I am wearing a small right now. And in their other pants and their other apparel pieces I would normally wear small. They fit really well in the waist and through the leg and they actually come in lengths. So right now I am actually wearing the short. They are a little bit short on me. I would probably feel more comfortable in the regular length. So the short is 29 inches in the inseam. The regular is 31 and the long is 33. So, as you can see, they come up a little bit higher with the short, but that is great for the versatility. So you can pick and choose which length works best for you.
And the overall feel, they are very generous in the fit. So I feel like I can move in them. There is not any stretch in the fabric, but since they are so generous, you can definitely move and hike in them and they feel like they would be pretty breathable. In the warmest of temperatures it might get a little bit clammy, but they are a waterproof, breathable material. So you will definitely breathe in those, you know. On chillier days or, you know, in the fall or winter they would be great. You can wear layers with them. You can definitely layer up underneath.
So right now I am wearing just a lightweight pair of long hiking pants and they fit really well.
Overall they are just a great, lightweight pant that you can tuck away in your backpack when you don’t need them. But when clouds roll in you can take them out and you will be protected from the elements.
