The Marmot Kompressor Star is a lightweight, highly-compressible day pack that can easily be carried in a large backpack for summit assaults or ride along in your luggage for adventures when you to your travel destination. It is also capable of serving as a stand-along, ultra-lightweight day pack.
Despite its lightweight design, the pack does have a mesh backpanel and contoured shoulder straps that make it surprisingly capable of comfortably carrying light loads. A removable webbing belt and an adjustable sternum strap aid in load stabilization and fit.
The panel-loading main compartment of the pack provides 1710 cubic inches of storage. A zippered lid compartment has an internal mesh pocket and an integrated key clip. When not in use, the entire pack stows inside the lid pocket. Other features include an external stash pocket, trekking pole attachments, stretch side water bottle pockets, and side compression straps to keep contents secure. An internal hanging clip and drinking tube pass-through make the pack hydration compatible (hydration system not included).

- The Kompressor Star Fixed Issues with Ultra Kompressor Pack
Likes: The updated design of the Star pack is much more usable than the Ultra. The brain of the Ultra was difficult to load and the contents spilt out. The Star loads and unloads easily. But the pack is the perfect size for the climbing gym. I pack my climbing shoes in the mid back pocket, which has stretchy mesh (something the Ultra lacked). I do like that they kept the padded strap and back panel. The waist strap also has extra padding on the sides that makes it more comfortable to wear.
Dislikes: It's a few ounces heavier than I'd like but still pretty light overall. I'm still not a big fan of the non-removable stiff frame. I would prefer a free standing pack, but the bottom of the pack doesn't allow it to lay upright.
