Compact and weighing well under 2 pounds, the Marmot Hydrogen 30 Degree sleeping bag is an ideal choice for high-performance backpacking in mild to cool temperatures. An array of features and 800+ fill water-resistant down insulation equip the bag for backcountry adventure.
The Hydrogen 30 Degree is insulated with certified 800+ fill goose down. Fill power measures the loft or "fluffiness" of down insulation and Marmot goes to great lengths to guarantee the 800+ certification with a battery of in-house and external verifications. Renowned for their efficiency in retaining heat and compressible properties, the feathers and fibers of down have an incredibly soft, comfortable feel and, despite advances in synthetic materials, continue to provide the best warmth-to-weight ratio of any insulation available. The one weakness of down insulation is that it loses much of its ability to maintain warmth when it gets wet; this is less of a problem in the Hydrogen 30 Degree, though, since the down in this bag is protected with Marmot’s Down Defender water repellent treatment that allows the down to stay drier 10 times longer than untreated down in damp conditions. Down Defender down also maintains significantly more loft and dries faster than untreated down.
Despite its lightweight construction, the Hydrogen 30 Degree makes no sacrifice with regards to performance and features. Eliminating cold spots and providing comfort, sewn-through baffles ensure that the insulation is distributed evenly throughout the bag. The contoured, ergonomic hood helps reduce heat loss and keeps your head warm and comfortable. An insulated draft tube sewn behind the full-length zipper keeps cold air from reaching the inside of the sleeping bag and zipper guards help to avoid irritating and damaging snags. A “fold down” second zipper enables you to vent the bag when needed and also makes it easier to get in and out of the bag. An anatomically-designed footbox provides a more natural fit and improves warmth and comfort.
Filled and finished in the USA (Rohnert Park, CA), the Marmot Hydrogen 30 Degree sleeping bag is available in Regular (fits up to 6' 0") and Long (fits up to 6' 6") lengths. A stuff sack and storage sack are included.

Real Customer Reviews
- Great backpacking sleeping bag
Likes: Used this bag backpacking on a weekend trip and I loved it! The weather was warm so I kept the long zipper open and used it as a quilt. The compact size of the stuff sack does not take much room in the backpack and the it’s pretty light weight. The second zipper is a nice feature but I have not used it yet so I can’t really rate it.
The stuff sack does feel a little small for the bag cause, when it’s full, there is still the hood to fit in the sack. But if you work at it a little bit the bag fits just in the stuff sack.
Dislikes: None so far
- Highly Dependable
Likes: The sleeping bag performs well in all temperatures. Used it in warm weather and unzipped the entire length and used it as a quilt. Used it also in cold weather and when fully zipped it keeps you warm. Not as sticky of an inside as other sleeping bags i've used.
Dislikes: Does get a bit damp if you are using a tent with rain fly, and it rains at night. Didn't feel any negative effects due to this however.
- Should serve the purpose
Likes: Light. Zipper on both sides.
Dislikes: Seems under filled. One of the baffles across the chest has very little down in it.
- Love the material. Love the color, weight, and the double zippers. The extra material near the feet is exceptional and very handy.
Likes: Used this for summer backpacking. Have not tried this in colder temperatures. Cant wait to try it in 20-30 degree temps. Sleep very well. Quiet, comfortable, roomy. Love the options backcountry edge provides
- Excellent for Moderate NorCal Climes
Likes: Light Weight; Packs Down Small; Well Constructed; Long version fits me well, especially around the shoulders; Small Zipper on non-zippered side allows for greater mobility when getting in/out. Love to use this when backpacking; fits in the pack efficiently. I do use a pad underneath (and sometimes a cot) so good to have a little extra room in the pack that this enables..
Dislikes: Short zipper could be a few inches longer if it were up to me. Color is not good next to my similarly-colored tent (but not quite a match).
- Ultracompact but not quite warm enough
Likes: This bag is amazing light and packs down quite small.
Dislikes: Even though this bag is rated at 30 degrees, I still found myself a little chilled at 45 degrees.
- Great Product
Likes: Spent a lot of time researching sleeping bags (trying to find a replacement for my synthetic bag that I have had for several years). Weight and compressibility were the most important factors and I am glad I found this bag at such a great price. I can't get over how small this bag compresses and how light it is.
Dislikes: As another reviewer mentioned, the stuff sack is a little snug.
- Marmot Hydrogen
Likes: Unbelievably warm and light
Compresses down to a very impressive size
Includes a marmot mesh storage bag that allows it to be stored uncompressed
I really like the no jam zipper, as well as the heavily insulated footbox and hood
The hood design is excellent with a flap that allows you to sleep in it when it gets warm out
Dislikes: The Marmot stuff sack that is included seems too small and really takes a lot of pushing to get the sleeping bag in, and I am worried about damaging the loft by overcompressing.
- Excellent Product
Likes: Extremely lightweight with plenty of warmth and room to sleep. Compresses down to a very small size in my backpack. Used it on a 4 day backpacking trip and it was fantastic. Looking forward to using it next time.
Dislikes: No dislikes about the bag. Would have been better if it came with a waterproof stuff sack.
- We'll see
Likes: Light weight and compressible. We'll find out how well the water resistant down works...and the temperature range.
Dislikes: A snug (maybe too snug ) fit around the shoulders.
