An affordable balance of price and performance, the Marmot Cloudbreak 20 Degree sleeping bag is designed for three-season camping and backpacking in damp or humid conditions.
An affordable balance of price and performance, the Marmot Cloud Break 20 degree sleeping bag is great for three season use. You have got synthetic material here which makes it very material. Synthetic also is great for those humid conditions when you are afraid your sleeping bag might take on some moisture or some water. If synthetic material does become wet, it dries out really quickly and it is a little bit more water resistant than traditional down. So that is what I really appreciate about this Thermal R synthetic material that Marmot is using in this sleeping bag.
It is a 20 degree sleeping bag. And Marmot does use EN ratings or European norm ratings for their sleeping bag, which gives a lower limit and a comfort rating. The comfort rating is closer to around 32 degrees Fahrenheit. So take that into consideration before taking this into the backcountry.
You have also got a mummy style sleeping bag here. So you have a traditional hood and it tapers down into the foot box. That is really great for thermal efficiency. So that little bit more trim fit down around the legs and the foot box is going to keep you warmer at night. But they do have a pretty generous size in the foot box. It is nicely baffled. So they have got some room down there. In the foot box they also include a little bit more insulation in key areas. So they have got some interesting body mapping going on which makes this affordable sleeping bag even a greater value. They have got extra insulation around the foot area and around the core where you might lose most of your heat.
The features here are pretty simple. As I mentioned, you do have a nicely baffled hood. So the hood has some extra shaping and some extra baffles here. You have a different size draw cord for the top and the bottom of that hood. So in the middle of the night you can reach and feel which one goes around the top and which one goes around the bottom. And you can cinch that down to your preferred fit. So you can just cinch down the top if you want and let some of that heat escape from the core. Or you can cinch them down all the way. So a really nice comfortable hood, a lot of design went into that, nice soft mate-rial on the inside there as well.
And then you have a full length zipper that goes most of the way down in the bottom of the foot box. This is a two way zipper. So if you need to, you can vent from the bottom. Just zip it up from the bottom just to vent out in the middle of the night. Or you can unzip it from the top. So that makes it really great feature there.
At the top here you have a little zipper garage. So if you have got that zipped up all the way, it is not going to irritate your chin. It is not going to be in your way. And as I just unzip this there is a nice durable material sewn behind the zipper. And that is going to prevent against snags. So this light weight material here is going to be protected there and you are going to be able to unzip really easily. This zipper does go into the inside of the bag as well. So you can reach it from the inside. You don’t have to reach outside of the sleeping bag to get to it.
And, as you can see, we have also got a stuff sack here. So this adds a lot more value to this sleeping bag. Marmot includes a compression sack. So they include this smaller stuff sack here. You have got straps on the side where you can really cinch that down. So since this is a synthetic bag, it doesn't pack down to be as small as some traditional down sleeping bags, but with his stuff sack you can really get the pack size down pretty small for a 20 degree bag.
They also include a bigger storage sack. So you don’t want to store this in a compressed state. You want to keep it nice and lofty and keep it in the bigger storage sack for at home.
This bag comes in two sizes, regular and long. The regular fits someone who is up to six feet tall. And the long fits someone who is up to six feet six inches tall. And the girth also changes for the regular and the long. You have a 60 inch girth for the regular size and that is the widest part around the shoulders. The long has a 62 inch girth. So if you do want a little more sprawling comfort, you don’t want a tight mummy sleeping bag, you can have a little bit more comfort here with this Cloudbreak.
The girth here is a little bit wider than I have seen in a lot of other mummy sleeping bags. So that adds a little bit of comfort. And just to add to that comfort here. The material on the outside and on the inside of the bag is a nice rip stop material. It is comfortable. It is not going to feel clammy. You know, it is definitely breathable material. It is soft against your skin and it cuts down on the weight of the sleeping bag as well.
Overall the Marmot Cloudbreak 20 degree bag is a great three season do it all bag. It is packable enough. You can take it into the backcountry. It would be great for camping as well, car camping and traveling. It is the Marmot Cloudbreak 20 degree synthetic sleeping bag.
