Light and sturdy, the LEKI Wanderfreund SpeedLock cane features easy-to-use external locking mechanisms and an ergonomic grip to offer support in a wide variety of conditions and terrain.
Light weight and very sturdy, the LEKI Wanderfreund SpeedLock Travel Cane offers reliable stability and very easy to use features.
This is a traditional telescoping pole, so you have three sections here. You have very light weight aluminum. The aluminum is also very sturdy. And you have LEKI’s life time guarantee on the shaft sections of their pole. So that just speaks to the longevity of that durable aluminum.
You have two LEKI Speed Locks. And these locks couldn’t be any easier to use. If it... when you want to adjust the pole all you do is flick open the speed lock with your thumb, adjust it to your preferred height and flick it closed. So that is the same thing on the bot-tom.
Now this pole doesn’t have specific points of adjustability, so there is no markings on here, but there is a usable length on the bottom section of the pole. So I do want to point that out. There is a stop min for the minimum usable length and there is a stop max for the maximum usable length here on the bottom. So that is the first adjustment I would make here. I had put it somewhere in between the stop min and the stop max point. Close that with my thumb and then from there you can adjust the top sections to whatever adjustment point you want. So these poles are very collapsible. At the bottom end they are 24.8 inches in length and they adjust all the way up to 47.25 inches in length. So you have a lot of adjustability there all the way up to about 120 centimeters.
Up here at the grip you have LEKI’s Aergomed grips. And you can use the grip in a couple of different ways. This is a traditional cane style, so you can use the top of it and you have a nice grip there and some dimpling so you get a really good grip on the top. You can also use the grip more like a traditional trekking pole. You have got a little bit of an extended grip there so you can use this in different ways. You also have a nice comfort strap that can take some of the pressure off of your wrists.
Moving down the pole to the tip you have LEKI’s carbide flex tips. And they do come standard with a rubber tip on the end. So that is great for improved surfaces, indoors, outdoors. You can get a really good grip on the ground that way. But if you are walking on trails or if you are traveling and you are in different areas and different terrain, you can take this tip off and that exposes the carbide end. So if you need to have the tip bite into the ground you can use that as well.
The tip is a replaceable piece, so the flex tip is meant to be replaceable if you need to re-place this after years of use. All you have to do is remove the tip and replace it with a new one. Or in the unlikely event that the tip gets caught between rocks or is in a position where it might damage the trekking pole, this is meant to break before the actual shaft sections of the pole.
This cane would be great for anyone who is traveling that needs a telescoping pole that is going to compress down to be really small, but also wants that very sturdy, very reliable construction that we can expect from LEKI. So this is also a day to day, every day use cane.
It is the LEKI Wanderfreund SpeedLock Travel Cane.
