Boasting a built-in camera mount, the Sierra Antishock from LEKI serves double-duty as a walking staff and as a camera monopod.
Delivering reliable and stable performance, the LEKI Sierra Antishock Walking Staff is perfect for folks who are looking for a fully featured walking staff that has got antishock. This is a three section pole, so you have a lot of adjustability, but it also telescopes down to be a pretty small size. When it is all the way compressed this is about 30.7 inches. And you can adjust it all the way up to 57 inches or in centimeters that is about 145 centimeters.
This has a longer useable length than I have seen with a lot of other walking staffs and trekking poles, because it does come with a photo adapter on top. So there is a walnut knob on the top of this pole. This actually is threaded so you can screw it off and that reveals a universal camera mount underneath. So when you are not using the walnut knob, you throw it in your back pack and you have got a really nice monopod for a camera. So with that longer usable length you can set it up at any height and use it in that way.
While we are up here at the top of the walking staff, there is really nicely padded foam grip and you have an adjustable webbing strap. So that really takes the pressure off of your wrists as you are walking or hiking.
Adjusting this walking staff is super easy with LEKI’s super lock system. So there are two internal locking mechanisms here and you just have to tighten and loosen them in order to make your adjustments. So, as I said, this adjusts from about 110 centimeters up to 145 centimeters. So let’s say I wan to adjust this pole to 110 centimeters. I choose the 110 centimeters on top the same way. I will loosen the bottom, adjust that to 110 centimeters and give it a little turn. So now this pole is set up to 110 centimeters.
And I will mention the antishock mechanism here is in the bottom section of the pole. So you can see there is a little bit of give there. This is a soft antishock so it is definitely going to take away the vibration that would come through the pole as you are hiking on improved surfaces or as you are walking on long days. And that is just going to take strain off of your wrists and your elbows and your shoulders. So there is a really nice soft anti-shock there.
Moving down to the bottom of the pole you have LEKI’s carbide flex tips. And some-thing that adds a lot of value is you get a rubber tip with the purchase of this pole. So you can take this tip off. It is replicable. And you can use that carbide end if you need it to dig into snow or trail, but if you are using it on improved surfaces, you can use this rubber tip here.
This pole tip down on the bottom is a replaceable piece and it is a press fit tip as well. So after years of use you can replace that carbide tip or, if the pole were to be in the unlikely event of getting stuck between rocks or in a position that might damage the trekking pole, this tip is meant to break first before the actual shaft of the poles. So a really great feature there and that is also a replaceable piece.
This walking staff would be great for someone who is traveling and likes to take photos with a tripod, but you don’t have a lot of space to carry a heavy tripod. So you can use this as a monopod and also as a walking staff. It would be great for day to day use, for hiking, traveling, back packing. It would be great for bird watching and just anyone who likes to take photos outdoors and also is looking for a reliable, light weight, but strong walking staff.
It is the LEKI Sierra Antishock Walking Staff.
