A traditional design paired with antishock and COR-TEC ergonomic grips, LEKI Makalu Antishock trekking poles provide rugged durability and consistent trail performance.
LEKI Makalu Antishock Trekking Poles are an excellent balance of affordability and trail performance. You have got lightweight, durable, aluminum construction. You have got integrated shock absorption and you have got nice, natural cork grips. Let’s take a closer look at the features of LEKI’s Makalu Antishock Trekking Poles.
The poles are three section poles so you have got two points of adjustability. It gives these poles an adjustable, usable range of 43 inches all the way up to 57 inches, so a nice broad range. Internal locking mechanisms help to keep weight down on the trekking poles. It also allows this lower shaft section to take advantage of an embedded shock absorption mechanism. So you will see there is actually a little bit of give there. As you are using the poles over the course of the day, long miles and you are pounding away on those poles, that little bit of shock absorption, that quieting of the vibration that would otherwise travel up and down the poles really does save some wear and tear on your joints and especially on your wrists.
The poles utilize LEKI’s AERGON COR-TEC composite grips. So a real natural feel to those grips a just... the next to skin in a hand feels really good even if you are out in warm weather and getting kind of sweaty palms, hot hands. This still really does give a nice confident point to grip the poles.
On top of the poles you will see this oval or ovoid construction. There is a little bit of dimpling there, too. Every now and then you will find that you are actually over top of the pole, wanting to palm the poles. And that shaping gives really nice ergonomics there in the palm of your hands. So, again, kind of enhances the performance of those grips.
You will see that there are security straps built in to the trekking poles. There is adjustability to those straps so you can get them to the point that is most comfortable to you. And, again, that helps save some strain and some stress on your wrists over the course of the day.
At the other end of the poles you will find LEKI’s carbide flex tips. This is actually a single piece designed in such a fashion that on the off chance that you would wedge poles between rocks or get them in some crack that might otherwise break a pole section, this instead would break away. This is a fully replaceable piece, so kind of nice thought process there. Even if that happens out in the field, you would still be able to use these poles.
It is worth mentioning. On aluminum poles like the LEKI Makalu Antishock poles, LEKI does offer a lifetime warranty on shaft breakage.
At the very end of those tips the ... just the teeniest section at the bottom there, that is the actual carbide portion of those tips. It is what comes in contact with the ground or on trail. That gives that confident bite. If you know you will be using these on improved surfaces, pavement, perhaps you will be using them for waking tours or if you know rather than trails you are likely to be using these repetitively on rock, you will actually find that you get better performance if you utilize LEKI’s rubber walking tips. They are sold separately, not included with these poles, but relatively inexpensive. And the press fit design allows them to just slide right over that tip end.
This diameter basket that you are finding here at the bottom is... ensures that the poles don’t dig too deeply into the ground. If you want to use these poles in the snow, you will want to take advantage of LEKI’s snow or deep powder baskets, broader diameter baskets that are sold separately, but that can screw in place of these performance baskets to give you the best performance in snow or winter conditions.
With that durable construction, the reliable and antishock performance and that affordable price tag, LEKI Makalu Antishock Trekking Poles are perfect for backpacking or hiking.
