An excellent balance of size, performance and price, the Backcountry Edge-exclusive Kelty Red Cloud 80 combines 4890 cubic inches of storage capacity, convenient access points and an array of features for multi-day and extended backpacking trips.
Equipped with an adjustable CloudLock II suspension system, the Red Cloud 80 pack relies on twin lightweight aluminum stays, an additional horizontal anti-barreling stay and an HDPE framesheet for reliable support. This design provides stability and load-bearing strength while avoiding the unwieldy rigidity of external frame packs. The pack’s Dynamic AirFlow back panel allows warm air to escape so that you stay cooler while carrying weight. A contoured, dual-density waistbelt offers comfortable load support. Kelty's patented Scherer Cinch uses a pulley-like system to double the tightening force on the waistbelt, ensuring that the brunt of the pack's weight rests on your hips.
The Red Cloud 80's anatomically curved and padded shoulder straps can be quickly and easily adjusted to accommodate torso lengths ranging from 17.5”-21". Load lifter straps relieve stress on your shoulders and an adjustable sternum strap positions the shoulder straps across the chest to prevent chafing under the arms and on the shoulders. Side compression straps secure the contents of the Red Cloud 80 for optimal balance and load distribution. An integrated spindrift collar and height-adjustable top lid allow you to carry even more gear and further aid in securing the pack's contents.
The top-loading Red Cloud 80 also incorporates an innovative design on the lowest portion of the packbag that provides wide access through the bottom of pack. This feature makes it much easier to get a sleeping bag, clothes or other gear in and out of the Red Cloud 80 than is often the case with the compartment access on comparably-sized packs. A zippered front panel offers additional quick access to your gear from the front of the pack. The lid of the pack can be removed entirely for use as a lumbar pack. A large pocket located on the front panel provides internal organizational options.
Additional features include zippered side pockets, a daisy-chain attachment system, a carry handle, ice-axe loops and dual mesh water bottle pockets. A lined interior pocket and built-in tube exit make the Red Cloud 80 hydration system (sold separately) compatible.

Real Customer Reviews
- Great Pack
Likes: the pack carries the weight right on the hips like it should! I really like the external pockets they are great for your stove or water purifier. the extra carry handle on the front side is very handy.
Dislikes: I have two Osprey packs that came with rain covers, I wish Kelty would include them as well.
- Love the size
Likes: I like the size and all the pockets.
Dislikes: I wish it was offered in other colors.
- love it
Likes: this is a good quality pack, good material and great durability, the pack is easy to set to fit any torso length, the space inside is great lots of pocket and storage possibility outside the main compartment. It would have been nice if the color inside the pack was of a different color than black so that it could have been more easily visible the interior in low light situation. Overall it is a great pack.
Dislikes: beside the inside coloration, i love everything about this pack.
Likes: Really a great pack. Excellent craftsmanship and seemed like you could take this anywhere and not have an ounce of worry that the pack would fail you. The shoulder straps are well padded the hip belt fits even the bigger guys and the Cloud Lock 2 suspension is cushy and easy to adjust. The pack is not too big by any means. I enjoyed the more slender mountaineering style construction of the main body of the pack when compared to the dimensions of the Red Cloud 90. I'm sure that the harness and belt system are both the same but the cut of the two packs is vastly different.
Dislikes: For me at least, I noticed that the load lifters worked better when I un-threaded them from their stays. Granted they didn't hug the shoulder straps as designed but they had the proper 45 degree angle and they operated correctly and pulled the load in closer. The second thing is the black on black. It looks cool but I was testing a gear load-in in a well lit room and I found it too difficult to work with. Not having inner contrast made these old eyes work too hard. You can hang a small light in the pack or just angle your head lamp in but I just envision being out in the middle of no where at night and not being able to see a thing in my pack. Despite those two issues this pack totaly rocks!
