The Kelty Coyote 80 internal frame backpack is an excellent balance of performance, capacity (4900 cubic inches), and affordability. It also features Kelty’s innovative PerfectFIT suspension. Load-hauling capability, convenient access points, and an array of features combine to equip the pack for overnight and multi-day backpacking trips.
The PerfectFIT suspension system provides accurate on-body size adjustment, allowing you to customize your fit in seconds. With PerfectFIT, gone are the days of taking measurements and trying on various pack sizes in a gear shop to determine the best fit for your particular body (or ordering a pack online that may or may not fit once you’ve received it). The pack’s PerfectFIT accommodates torso lengths ranging from 15.5 to 21 inches. Twin lightweight aluminum stays, a horizontal anti-barreling stay, and an HDPE framesheet deliver trustworthy support. This design provides stability and load-bearing strength while avoiding the unwieldy rigidity of external frame packs. Hex mesh on the padded backpanel and waistbelt provides excellent cushioning and ventilation. Load lifter straps relieve stress on your shoulders and an adjustable sternum strap positions the shoulder straps across the chest to prevent chafing under the arms and on the shoulders.
The top-loading pack also incorporates an innovative design on the lowest portion of the packbag that provides wide access through the bottom of pack. This feature makes it much easier to get a sleeping bag, clothes or other gear in and out of the Coyote 80 than is often the case with the compartment access on many packs of comparable carrying capacity. A zippered front panel offers additional quick access to your gear from the front of the pack. The lid of the pack can be removed entirely for use as a sleek sling pack. A large stretch pocket on the front of the pack is perfect for keeping additional layers at the ready.
Additional features include a front zippered pocket, zippered side pockets, integrated compression straps, a carry handle, ice-axe loops, and dual mesh water bottle pockets. A lined interior pocket and built-in tube exit make the pack hydration system (sold separately) compatible.
The Kelty Coyote 80 is available in your choice of color options.

- Great Winter Backpack
Likes: I love the color, the size of this pack, all the organization pockets and how sturdy this pack is. I bought this backpack for my winter camping and it has so much space inside!!!!
Dislikes: My torso measurement is 17 in, I'm a little on the short side. It has been difficult to get the pack to fit me right. The recommended size for this pack is from 15.5-21 in but mine is as short as it can get and I don't see how someone with a shorter torso can adjust it. It is good for now.
- Best pack I've ever owned
Likes: Perfect fit for me at 5'10". Lots of good size pockets, and an access panel for easy access. Ha! Ha!
Dislikes: Not a one.
- Forget the luggage
Likes: Tons of Compartments like my old school external frame!
Lots of gear loops!
Opens up for easy access!
Dislikes: Lots of extraneous plastic zipper pulls.
Zippers and compression straps interrupt one another, so you have to take it slow when you're accessing gear.
- Outstanding value in a comfortable pack
Likes: Super light, super comfortable. It almost stands up by itself with only the waist strap fastened! Well made and lot's of access.
Dislikes: None so far. I love it.
- Great first impression
Likes: Extremely well constructed bag. Conveniently placed access points for quick grabbing of your items. Very comfortable padding and extremely adjustable to from small to large body frames.
Dislikes: Truly no dislikes as of yet. Will have to follow up once I take it out on a true trek
- Great bag
Likes: Massive, able to hold a lot of items. Lots of compartments.
Ability to easily adjust while wearing.
Breakaway summit sack.
Dislikes: none as of yet.
- Great pack! Had room for everything.
Likes: Multiple pockets for all different types of gear and alternate strap points to adjust for adding extras to outside. Used it within a week of getting it. Took a backpacking trip with Scouts and worked great. Can't wait to use it again next month.
Dislikes: Hard to find any. Maybe Kelty could offer additional colors..
