The classic, award-winning Gregory Baltoro 65 internal frame backpack boasts a wealth of access points, an array of trail-worthy features and an innovative, custom-fit suspension system that combine to make this 3720+ cubic inch pack a backcountry workhorse.

Determined to avoid the failings of ill-fitting backpacks, Gregory has equipped the Baltoro 65 with the high-performance Response Automatic Angle Adjust (A3) suspension system. Designed to flex with the natural movements of your body, a “wishbone” 7075 aluminum alloy wire frame distributes weight evenly, providing superior load stability, comfort and range of motion. A composite EVA foam backpanel offers breathability and support while resting comfortably against your back. Extensive, contoured padding in the harness, lumbar area, and hipbelt further enhance both fit and comfort. A removable shim of EVA foam can be used or removed to beef up the lumbar padding to best suit your preference. The pre-curved shoulder straps and hipbelt fins move independently of one another to mirror your every movement on-trail or off. These components are available in varying sizes, allowing you to customize the Baltoro 65 to deliver the best fit for backpackers of all shapes and sizes. If you require customization of components, please leave detailed instructions about what size hipbelt and/or harness you need in the “Order Comment” field on the “Order Review” screen at checkout or call us at 1.800.617.0643 to place your customized order directly with one of our Gear Specialists. A sternum strap and load-lifter straps further enhance the pack’s fit and ensure the stability of your load.

A lashed divider separates the top and front-entry main compartment of the Baltoro 65 from a lower sleeping bag compartment, allowing for organization and separation of wet and dry gear. When hauling longer items or in need of access between the two compartments, you can unhook the divider and convert the Baltoro 65 to a single, large compartment. The extendible lid of the Baltoro 65 includes a weather-resistant zippered pocket for stowing gear and can be detached entirely to save weight. The pack has a wealth of other organizational features, including an enormous zippered front pocket, two sizable and separated lid pockets, and a smaller zip pocket on the underside of the lid.

Other features include a canted, hideaway water bottle holder, two zippered hipbelt pockets one of which is entirely waterproof, gear attachment loops, and side, cross over and lower panel compression straps. Gregory also includes a raincover for full protection against the elements. An integrated sleeve and exit port make the Baltoro 65 hydration system (sold separately) compatible. That same sleeve can be removed entirely and, thanks to its integrated minimalist shoulder strap, it can be used as a lightweight daypack or summit pack!

The Gregory Baltoro 65 backpack is available in your choice of colors and Small (fits torso lengths ranging from 16”-18”), Medium (18”-20”) and Large (20”-22”) size options.

Great pack
Reviewed by Mike F. - August 31, 2018

Likes: Pockets, straps shoulder and hip harness perfect for what I need. Materials are strong and Gregory makes the pack to last. Nice to have a rain cover included which I think most packs should have. Store tons of gear and strap the rest to the sides and bottom. The pack can hold a lot of weight and rides comfortably on your back. I would buy this pack again.

Dislikes: The pack has a little weight to it right out of the box. A stronger strap to hold an axe in place.

Great backpack!!
Reviewed by Anthony M. - August 27, 2018

Likes: This backpack fit me great. Size M, I am 5’7” 160 lbs. I did a lot of research and tried REI packs and Ospreys. This was the best bang for the buck. It has served me well and I will swear by the Gregory packs.

Dislikes: None so far.

Dislikes: There isnt anything I dislike about this pack at its current price

Great pack
Reviewed by Krysto - August 13, 2018

Likes: Size, fit, comfort, adjustable lumbar support, internal day pack, weatherproof hip pocket

Dislikes: Would love to have some more attachment points for gear on the exterior. I love the top pocket pull (Plastic handle) and wish the rest of them were as easy to use

Gift for our son for a portion of the AT. Four stars, as he has not hit the trail as yet. Initial evaluation with much of his gear aboard is positive

Great backpack
Reviewed by Jeff E. - August 9, 2018

Likes: Lumbar support, removable hydration pack, adjustable shoulder straps, floating hip belt, zipper opening to pack contents, included rain fly

Dislikes: hip belt pockets are small

Overall great backpack
Reviewed by Mac - August 4, 2018

Likes: Pros - very centrally weighted and comfortable, plastic on lower back helps keep weight on hips, hip belt pockets are very convenient. hideaway water bottle pocket is super convenient

Dislikes: Cons - skinny main pocket can be difficult to pack, back padding does not vent well and can be pretty hot on warm days

A3 Suspension was not the big improvement as I was hoping
Reviewed by Rick B. - July 29, 2018

Likes: I bought the Baltoro 65 based on the description of the A3 suspension. I used it for a 35 pound load and did not notice an improvement over my other pack. The A3 suspension might be an improvement for heavier loads, but if you just carry 35 pounds, you too might not notice a difference. The Baltoro weights about 1 pound more than my other pack. Also, I did not have a need for the summit pack. It just added weight so I took it out. Maybe it should be an option. I did not find the side entrance useful. And I would have liked more and better ways to strap tent poles and hiking poles on the outside. All that said, the backpack is bomb-proof. You would not go wrong buying it.

Dislikes: A3 suspension was not useful for 35 pound loads.
Summit pack added weight and cost to the pack.
Side entrances turned out not to be all that useful.
Could use more/better set-up to strap gear to the outside.
