Deuter's most full-featured child carrier, the Kid Comfort 3 provides a fully adjustable suspension system, a swiveling hipbelt, extensive padding and German-engineered safety features.
Deuter’s most fully featured child carrier, the Kid Comfort 3 has a fully adjustable suspension system, it has got a lot of storage capacity and all the safety features that you and your child need to enjoy your time together outdoors. Let’s take a closer look at its many features.
As you can see, the Kid Comfort 3 is a fully framed child carrier. So you have got nice structure throughout the carrier. It gives it nice stability and structure while you are wearing it. It also gives it a nice stable base when you have set it on the ground to take your child in and out of the child carrier.
Don’t have one of my children here, but we have got a little volunteer in this Deuter Teddy Bear. Because of that I am going to go ahead and fold in the kick stand leg so we can better turn the pack around. You obviously would not want to do that while you had your child still resting on the ground.
I am going to spin the pack and we will look here at the suspension system. Deuter, of course, is known for its backpack construction and they have brought that expertise into play on the Kid Comfort 3. You have got really extensive, really plush padding throughout this back panel. It is a perforated foam you have got here which also helps to keep you a little bit cooler when you are carrying the pack and you are on the move. You have got contoured, padded shoulder straps. You have got that pivoting hip belt. It helps to keep the pack stable, stay nicely in place while still allowing you to move freely while wearing it.
There is adjustability on that hip belt. There is adjustability on the shoulder straps as well. And, in fact, behind the back panel you have got a, basically a hidden ladder lock that lets you adjust up or down the height of the suspension system so that it fits a broad range of torso sizes as small as 15 inches in length all the way up to 21 inches, really nice broad range of adjustability. So between mom, dad or whomever else might be wearing this, you can really fine tune things so it fits whomever is wearing this appropriately and comfortably.
To help you dial in fit even further there are integrated load lifter straps and a sliding and adjustable sternum strap, so lots of different ways to really make sure that the carrier is comfortably on your back riding the way you want it to. And because of that, that your child is riding comfortably as well.
While we are talking about the way your child rides in the Kid Comfort, let’s take a closer look at the child seat and the harness. You see there is a nice break buckle here on the side, which throws open that nicely padded side panel. There is one on the other side as well that is in a more of a fixed position. Again, it kind of snugs your child and makes sure that he or she is riding comfortably and safely. But by throwing open that side panel you are able to get in and out and get your child in and out that much more easily.
On the actual harness you have got a couple of different connection points here. Again, that makes sure your child is safe and isn’t going anywhere at all. Go ahead and remove the teddy bear so we can take a closer look at this seat.
There is height adjustability to this seat, so by adjusting that point here you can raise or lower the seat so that as your child grows he or she can ride in here that much more comfortably. They aren’t cramped. It adjusts for their size, which is really nice. And, again, the harness itself has similar adjustability.
Your child should not be riding in this child carrier unless he or she is able to hold their head upright. So sturdy neck, that strengthening that happens as they grow. You are going to want to wait on that. So not yet able to do that, they are also not yet ready to ride in the child carrier. As far as weight is concerned, you are probably maxing out at about 40 pounds for the child. So keep that in mind as well.
The stirrups here on the side are also really handy and also fully adjustable. As children ride in the seat and their legs dangle throughout the day, it actually could be a point of discomfort without the stirrups here. So by being able to put their feet in here and adjust it so their legs are in a more comfortable position, their legs won’t go to sleep. They will be that much happier, that much more comfortable in here and the two of you are that much more likely to enjoy your time together.
A lot of other features to talk about here on the child carrier. So let’s go ahead and look at those. Before I move it, I do want to point out the padding here, which basically is a chin pad for your child. Whether he or she has fallen asleep or just the way they are bouncing around in there as you are bouncing around on the trail, this really makes sure that there is an added measure of comfort. There is drool, there is dirt throughout the day. It is worth knowing that this is actually fully removable so you can wash it and you can put it back in place.
Other features, let’s spin this again, you can see there are stretch pockets here on those side panels, a great place to stash toys. Deuter even throws in a toy, you get this cute little teddy bear with each Kid Comfort 3.
Lots of storage. So you have got a sizable compartment, zippered compartment here in the back. Really deep. So a lot of nice place to put clothes, layers, diapers, you name it. You have got all kinds of storage there. Also a sizable stretch storage pocket here up top. I have got a water bottle thrown in there. There is also a zippered pocket here. There is also dual zippered pockets on the hip belts. So I have got a phone in one. Spin this here and show you the other, because there is a nice feature here as well.
As I open up that zipper, again you will see that I have got my keys. There is a phone thrown in there. But Deuter includes a small mirror, not a whole lot to it. It doesn’t look like much. Believe it or not, it is really handy to be able to just peak over your shoulder at your child. Didn’t have this with my child carriers as my girls were growing. And it is something that really resonates for me. Every now and then you just need to see what is going on back there and you can have some fun with it, too, as well. So kind of a really thoughtful feature that Deuter has included there.
A really stand out feature on the Kid Comfort 3 is the integrated sunroof. So it is tucked away here in the back. Open up the zipper. Pull it forward. And it clips into place. With many child carriers there is an accessory of this sort that is available. And I can tell you, again, as a father who used a child carrier if not every day almost every day, this is something that more often than not I was using. A child’s skin is much more sensitive then ours tends to be, so it doesn't need quite the same hot sun to bother a child or, you know, affect their skin as it would us. So really, really nice feature in play there. Also wards off precipitation, at least moderate precipitation.
You can get a more extended rain cover to go over top of this as well, but that is sold separately. A really great feature. It adds a lot of value on the Kid Comfort 3.
Equipped with that wide array of features, having that adjustable suspension system and comfort, reliable comfort for both you and your child, the Deuter Kid Comfort 3 is an excellent option for on the go families.
