The Deuter company was founded by Hans Detuer in 1898 making it one of the oldest backpack manufacturers in the world. Since the '30s Deuter has collborated with alpine sports professionals to test its backpacks under extreme conditions, setting its sights on constant improvement.
Delivering "adult" performance in a size appropriate for young backpackers, the Deuter Fox 40 Youth internal frame pack is built for backcountry adventure. A capacity of 2440 cubic inches equips the Fox 40 Youth pack for long day hikes or overnight trips.
The Fox 40 Youth pack utilizes Deuter's Alpine Back System. Comprised of two vertical padded foam strips and an X-frame of lightweight aluminum stays, the Alpine Back System offers stability and comfort while providing a "chimney" at the spinal column for ventilation. Anatomically contoured shoulder straps enhance flexibility, comfort and precision fit. Further enhancing fit and allowing for the growth of young backpackers, Deuter's Vari-Quick harness system adjusts easily to accommodate torsos ranging from 11"-18" in length. Ventilated pads in the back, shoulder straps and hipbelt help to keep you cool and comfortable on your adventures. Load-lifter straps and a sternum strap work in tandem with the shoulder and lumbar padding to effectively distribute weight throughout the pack, further ensuring stability and comfort.
A top loading main compartment, a bottom entry compartment and side bellows pockets allow for organization and separation of wet and dry gear. A zippered lid pocket and elastic side pockets provide additional places to store and organize gear.
Other special features of the Fox 40 Youth include an ice axe loop, trekking pole loops, and a sternum strap buckle that doubles as a safety whistle. A lined sleeve in the main compartment, built-in tube exit points, and a drinking tube clip on the shoulder strap combine to make the Fox 40 Youth hydration system compatible.

- Excellent for my 12 year old daughter
Likes: Great adjustability excellent materials
Dislikes: Could use an large stretch pocket on the exterior
- Opens up world of hiking for kiddos
Likes: My son loves this pack. Adjustable fit allows it to sit just right on his torso and grow with him over the next few years. He was able to carry his own tent, bedroll, food, and other essentials (probably about 15 lbs) comfortably on his own for duration of hike.
