The lightweight Deuter ACT Trail 28 SL Women's day pack combines load-bearing capability, convenient access features and a streamlined profile. Numerous external pockets and lash points grant excellent versatility.
Extremely versatile for a multitude of adventures, the Deuter ACT Trail 28 Liter SL Pack is perfect for those outings when you need to pack light, but you have also got a lot of versatility in your pack. So it would be great for hiking, traveling, ski touring or snow shoeing when you need to bring some things with you during the day. It would also be a great urban pack. It has very clean lines and a sleek look for that. So it is great for all of those adventures, anything you can throw at it.
The first thing to talk about with any pack is the suspension system, how it keeps you comfortable and how it carries the load. So if I turn it around you have got Deuter’s Air Contact Back System. This is not an adjustable pack, meaning that the torso size is not necessarily adjustable, but this is a women’s specific pack. It is the SL version or slim line version. So it is going to accommodate torsos from 14 up to 18 inches. And although the shoulder harness is sewn in here, you can’t adjust that up and down, you do have some nice load lifter straps that are going to accommodate those different torsos. So you can really adjust that up and down to your preferred height.
With SL packs with Deuter, you do have a more narrow shoulder width here. The shoulder straps are a little more contoured. So that just fits smaller frames.
With this Air Contact Back System you have a lot of padding, padding here on either side, into the lumbar area of the pack. So it is really going to sit up off of your pack with all of that mesh and all of that padding to keep you comfortable. And then you have this center chimney in the middle. That chimney is going to allow warm air to escape. So as you are hiking as you moving with this pack, it is going to allow that warm air to escape and then with that rigid frame behind the scenes, you are going to be able to carry a lot of weight.
Down here on the bottom you can see I have one side of the hip belt open. You can tuck this away. I have it tucked away on the other side. If you are using this as a travel pack or even an urban pack, you can really tuck that away if you don’t need to use this hip belt. But when you take it out, it is a big enough hip belt here with adjustability that you are going to be able to transfer that load to your hips. So with this being a smaller pack, you don’t need as much of a hip belt, but that is definitely a great feature. You can tuck that away when you are not using it.
This is hydration compatible, so you can get a two liter hydration system in there. It is sold separately. You can route it right here through the middle, but you can route it to either side. So you have got loops there and then you do have an adjustable sternum strap. That sternum strap has a little bit of stretch, so as you are moving, doing those aerobic activities, it is going to allow you to breathe while also offering that support that you need.
While this pack does have a lot of simple features and clean lines, you do have a lot of features and you do have a lot of organization. It is perfect for this size. I am going to call out this pocket right on top. You do have kind of a lid on this pack. It is not necessarily a floating lid, but it is adjustable and you have got a nice zipper right on the top here. That is going to allow you access into lighter weight items that you want to get your hands on quickly. So there is that.
Moving to the side of the pack there is nice stretchy pocket on this one side. This is an open pocket, so it is a perfect place for a water bottle. And if I turn it back over to the other side, you don’t have that same pocket on the other side. You have got a zippered pocket. So you can put anything you want in there. You could put a water bottle in there, but I have just got some extra fuel stowed away. So this is a really nice little pocket on the side that gives you organization. If you don’t have this pack packed out completely, this pocket really tucks away nicely and you don’t notice that it is there.
This is a true top loading pack. So if I uncover the lid, there is even a hidden pocket underneath of that lid. Large access into the top of the pack. Got an extra layer up there. And you can see just a really wide opening. I can get my hands on the gear in the top of the pack there. And then moving my way down the pack you also have access into the main body through a U shaped zipper. It is probably my favorite thing about this pack. It makes it really great for travel and it also makes it a really great climbing pack. So a big U shaped zipper. You see how wide that opens. So if you have got kind of all your climbing gear in there, or if you are traveling and you just want to use this as a piece of luggage, you can get your hands on all of the gear you need inside your pack. So that is a really great feature. And it is tucked away really nicely with this zipper on top. So that just makes it really clean.
There is a shallow map pocket right here in the front. I have got some maps tucked away there. And some other features here include little loops. Deuter has a helmet compatible accessory that you can buy separately and that hooks on to there really nicely. So, again, for climbing, maybe ski touring, anywhere where you would want to store your helmet on the outside of the pack, so biking as well.
You do have some loops, some stretchy loops down here on the bottom attached to trekking poles or any sort of tool loops. You can put your tools there. There is plenty of places to attach gear to the outside of this pack as well.
Now if we move to the bottom this does come with an included rain cover. The rain cover is tucked away in the zipper on the bottom of the pack. And that just adds a lot of value to this pack. So it is custom fit. You just pull it out and stretch it over top of the pack. But it has got its own little storage pocket when you don’t need it.
The material on the bottom of this pack is an extra tough, extra durable material. So they keep the weight down with some lighter weight materials on the rest of the pack, but this material down here places that it would come into contact with the ground and might wear out quickly, they have really beefed put he material there.
So there are small attentions to detail with this pack that make it great for just any adventure, anything you can throw at it.
The ACT Trail 28 Liter SL Pack by Deuter is your do it all adventure pack.
