The Crescent Moon Gold 17 snowshoe is built for great flotation in deep snow for hikers up to 300 pounds. The easy-to-use binding provides quick exit and entry, an important consideration when wearing gloves or mittens or carrying a big pack. The Gold 17 snowshoe is recommended for deep snow and expedition-like conditions.
Reflecting a commitment to environmentally-responsible manufacturing, Crescent Moon does not use any PVC in its snowshoes. Crescent Moon snowshoes are manufactured in the U.S. through the use of 100% wind power and at least 95% of all scrap and waste materials are recycled.
The Gold 17 snowshoe sports Crescent Moon's innovative step-in Single-Pull-Loop (SPL) binding. The SPL binding features a molded polyurethane stirrup that captures your foot with a single pull of the loop strap, resulting in equal tension across the harness without the need to fuss with several individual strap adjusters. To close the binding, a polycarbonate buckle ratchets your heel snugly into place for a secure and comfortable fit. Once locked, it will not slip or loosen. In addition, Crescent Moon has applied the aeronautical engineering principle of redundant design to the binding mechanism. With six rivet locations securing the binding strap to the frame, you could cut the support strap in half and still make it home with your binding intact. A broad range of adjustability accommodates various boot sizes up to a Men's size 15.
To ensure optimal flotation, the Gold 17 snowshoe is balanced to distribute your body weight across the entire shoe. This design also makes the snowshoe easier to pull out of the snow, so you don't have to work as hard to walk, hike or climb. The unique teardrop shaped platform is based on the shape of your foot, wide at the ball and narrow at the heel. Instead of forcing you to waddle, the ergonomic design helps your feet clear away from each other with every step, ensuring a smooth, natural stride and allowing you to concentrate on your adventure.
The frame of the Gold 17 snowshoe is made from lightweight aircraft-grade aluminum tubing, which is shaped by hand and welded for incredible strength, durability and reliability. A durable powder-coat finish offers excellent protection from the elements, reduces ice build-up and enhances the aesthetics of the snowshoes. The decking is made from an ultra durable, lightweight material called TGS. It is extremely resistant to abrasion and textured for additional traction and performance.
The Gold 17 snowshoe employs Crescent Moon's three-claw crampon traction system, providing optimal grip. Inherently better than standard two-crampon systems, the three-claw system features a genuine toe claw. As you walk, you use your whole foot, shifting your weight for balance and traction with each step. The stainless steel teeth and claws dig in not only at the heel and ball of your foot, but also at the toe, giving you complete control. The Gold 17 snowshoe also features an extra set of traversing crampons for steep inclines and crossing fall lines.
