An excellent combination of durability and lightweight (15.4 oz/pair) construction, Komperdell Carbon C7 Ascent poles are well suited for alpine use, snowshoeing or year-round hiking. A hybrid aluminum and carbon design provides these two-section poles with reliability at a lower-than-average weight.
Delivering an excellent combination of being lightweight, yet very durable, the Komperdell Carbon C7 Ascent Trekking Poles are perfect for that backpacker, mountaineer, hiker or snowshoer who is looking for a versatile pair of trekking poles that are extremely lightweight.
The first thing that stands out to me about these poles is that it is a hybrid design of titanal aluminum and carbon. So the top section here is that titanal aluminum so you have a lot of durability there, long lasting poles. But then on the bottom you have that lighter weight carbon. So they get the weight down pretty low for these trekking poles. And, you know, even though they are very thin, very lightweight, they are very, very durable for their weight. You have got just one locking mechanism here. It is an external lock. It couldn’t be any easier to use. You simply flick open that lock with your thumb and then adjust the pole to your preferred height. So these ... since it is just a two section pole there is a lot of versatility in the adjustment here. It adjusts all the way down to about 110 centimeters at the low end and then you can adjust it up all the way up to 145 centimeters at the top. You can see right there at the top it says: Stop at 145 centimeters. So you can adjust it all the way up to there. And for such a lightweight pair of poles you have a very wide range of adjustability there.
So once you have got them set at the proper height, all you have to do is flick that lock closed. You have got a very secure hold, but you don’t have to apply a lot of force to open and close that. And it makes adjustments really fast and really easy.
Moving up the pole to the grip, you have got a nice ergonomic foam grip here at the top. The thing I love about foam is it works well in pretty much any temperature. So this is a great grip for snowy winter, you know, very cold conditions. Foam works really well with gloves and you can’t feel the cold through that foam grip. In the same way, in warmer temperatures if you begin to perspire, foam does a great job at wicking away that sweat. So you have got an ergonomic grip there. And below that grip you have a small extension where if you are hiking on steep ascents you can just grab the pole at a lower spot. And that is, you know, really easy to grab. It is really nice and durable there. But it provides a really great grip.
So that is something I really appreciate about this pole and you also have an adjustable, comfortable strap.
Down here on the bottom you do have a nice basket that comes with the pole. So this is meant for kind of alpine environments where you might encounter some snow. So you do have a wider diameter basket down there. The basket is flexible which is something I don’t see in a lot of poles. If you do need that floatation it is going to give you the right amount of floatation. It kind of flexes with you. So I really like that. And then down here on the bottom you have a tungsten carbide tip. So against snow, on trails, you are going to have a lot of grip there and that tip is extremely durable. So all the features you get here with this pole, it is very lightweight. It is durable. You have that hybrid design with the two materials. It is a really smart pole for a variety of adventures.
It is the Komperdell Carbon C7 Ascent Trekking Poles.
