The versatile, pocket-sized Black Diamond Orbit utilizes a full 1-Watt LED bulb to provide ounce-counting backpackers with bright, non-glaring illumination. This compact, reliable light source can function as either a lantern or a flashlight.
Working in tandem with dual reflectors and a frosted globe, the 1-Watt bulb provides a bright 60 Lumens output in lantern mode without causing glare. An integrated dimming switch allows for quick and easy brightness adjustability. Slide the housing of the Orbit and convert it to a 50 Lumen flashlight. Operated by 4 AAA alkaline batteries (not included), the Orbit offers up to 13 hours of burn time in lantern mode and up to 55 hours when used as a flashlight. When collapsed, the Orbit is a mere 4 inches in length. At full extension, the Orbit stands at a full height of 5.5 inches.

Likes: I decided to go with the 2014 version of this lantern (lower lumen output than the newer version), because I only planned to use this inside my tent or in my jeep, where I don't need anything too bright, but wanted to be able to find things in the dark without getting blinded. As a bonus, it was a clearance sale item, so a good value for the money. I think this lantern is perfect! It puts out a soft ambient light and is small enough to suspend from a loop in the tent or a ridge line in the hammock without sagging. I really love the design of the hanger on top of the lantern, also.
Like all Black Diamond lights, it's sturdy and easy to use. Plus, it's light and small, which makes it perfect for backpacking. Love it!
Dislikes: None so far. My use is limited to inside the tent and immediate areas around a campsite, but if you're looking for something to really light up your surroundings, you might want to go with the newer model for greater lumen output. For me, this one is just right.
- I had an older version that I gave to my son. This new one has a flashlight! and great lighting in my tent!
Likes: Size, Small! Weight, Price, but especially the addition of the flashlight!
