The feature-rich Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 backpacking tent boasts an impressive interior space-to-weight ratio. The balance of weight and performance is sure to appeal to ounce-counters who still appreciate comfort.

Stretching a full 88" in length, the interior of the tent is 52" wide at the head and tapers to a width of 42" at the feet. With 29 square feet of interior space and a trail weight of only 2 pounds, 14 ounces, the tent offers ample room for 2 or serves as a super spacious shelter for solo hikers. Dual vestibules offer 18 square feet (9 square feet per vestibule) of additional weather-protected external storage space. Interior mesh pockets provide places to stash gear and clothes while media pockets located above the sleeping area enable headphone/ear bud cord routing from phones or other devices. Integrated gear loft loops offer a connection point for the Big Agnes Triangle Gear Loft (sold separately).

The tent’s DAC Featherlite NFL aluminum poles are both lightweight and durable. The single hub/pole design works in conjunction with the tent body's integrated clips to make setting up the tent fast, easy, and intuitive. An additional short section of pole runs across the roof of the tent and connects easily via an innovative attachment that pulls the tent body taut, increasing the verticality of the interior walls and helping to maximize the spaciousness of the vestibules. An eco-friendly anodizing process is used by DAC to treat the poles without the toxic chemicals traditionally used on aluminum tent poles. Reflecting an overall commitment to maintaining as light a packed weight as possible, superlight aluminum J stakes are included to further secure the freestanding tent.

Ample mesh on the tent body and the large D-shaped doors encourages cross ventilation and provides circulation to fight condensation build-up. Coated with 1200mm waterproof polyurethane, the rip-stop nylon floor and rainfly are lightweight and durable. All of the tent's seams are seal-taped with waterproof, solvent-free polyurethane tape (no PVC or VOCs) to further protect the tent from the elements.

If you really want to travel light, leave the tent body at home and use the rainfly alone with the optional Copper Spur HV UL 2 Footprint (sold separately) for a tarp-style set-up that weighs a mere 2 pounds, 4 ounces.

Great tent
Reviewed by Harold E. - September 5, 2018

Likes: Plenty of room

Dislikes: Doesn't come with a footprint

Reviewed by John J. - August 27, 2018

Likes: Yes, this tent is a bit on the pricy side but man is it worth it. I just took it for a spin on a backpacking trip in the Rockies and it delivered. Incredibly lightweight, very spacious, and basically perfect. I cannot recommend this tent enough. The vertical sidewalls make the interior very spacious. I'm 6' tall and had about a foot of space to put precious gear below my feet. The vestibules are big enough for lots of gear as well.

Dislikes: None so far!

Great Lightweight Tent
Reviewed by Meredith D. - August 22, 2018

Likes: Comfortable, easy to pitch, sturdy in tough weather

Dislikes: The floor material is thin so it needs a footprint.

BA Copper Spur UL2
Reviewed by Kevin B. - August 22, 2018

Likes: Have only used this in backyard and 1 overnight trip. So far love the light weight and ease of setting up. Being a bigger guy, the is a great 1 person tent with room to spare for my gear. Looking forward to more use in upcoming backcountry hunt.

Dislikes: None so far.

Super amazing tent
Reviewed by Judith M. - August 21, 2018

Likes: The light weight because I ride a motorcycle and need to keep my gear light and limited.

Dislikes: So far I have nothing to dislike, my only pet-peeve would be that it doesn’t come with the foot-print.

Great Lightweight Backpacking Tent
Reviewed by Scott R. - August 21, 2018

Likes: This Big Agnes tent is a great size for two people (I am 6' tall and my wife is 5'4'). It's quick and easy to set up and take down. It has decent size vestibules and multiple pockets for storing gear inside Perfect for someone on the go everyday looking for a small, easy to pack, lightweight tent. Haven't had any issues with zippers. As with any lightweight tent, one should handle gently.

Great Tent On Beast Mode!
Reviewed by Steve F. - August 21, 2018

Likes: This spacious tent is amazing. I never thought I could feel so comfortable for such a low weight penalty. I normally backpack solo so some would say this tent is overkill. But if I know its going to rain I'm bringing this shelter. Just the ability to have a huge livable area is absolutely key. I'm a bigger guy and I really really like the fact that this tent provides a lot of space. I also love that this tent is a free standing tent so it can be pitched with or without the fly. Nothing better than going to sleep in the outdoor being able to look at the stars. Love it!

Thoroughly enjoy this tent! Buy it, you wont regret it.

Dislikes: There is only one dislike and one upgrade I would like to see on this tent. Neither are deal breakers. I can't stand the center pole not being attached to the greater pole structure. I know the old model didn't have that either and I realize the separate pole is necessary for the wide spacious structure of the tent but yeah...its more annoying than problematic.

The upgrade I would like to see is Big Agnes using Velcro on both sides of the inner fly to attach to the poles. Right now there is Velcro to attach to the poles only on the back half of the tent which can leave the front of the tent to less structurally sound. It's really no big deal but it would have been nice to be able to button down all four tent poles to the fly.

Great tent
Reviewed by Andrew G. - August 14, 2018

Likes: Love how light and easy to set up this tent is. I used it on a 4 night backpacking trip and a 3 night camping trip and both times have come away impressed. It doesn't sacrifice space, comfort, or durability for its size and weight.

Dislikes: Nothing about the tent itself, but you do have to buy the footprint separately (would recommend). Just a bummer that's how BA sells the tent, but otherwise I'm thoroughly satisfied with my purchase of the Copper Spur.

Extremely Lightweight and great for backpacking!
Reviewed by Marc W. - August 14, 2018

Likes: This is one of the lightest tents I have seen. I like that it is a stand-alone and can be positioned almost anywhere. However, the lightweight is the best feature. I do not usually backpack for more than 4-5 days each time I go out. Since my pack weight can be an issue for short trips, I like that this tent and the footprint (purchased separately) comes in around 3 lbs. Also, it will fit two people for the short trips.

Dislikes: None at this time.
