The feature-rich Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 backpacking tent boasts an impressive interior space-to-weight ratio. The balance of weight and performance is sure to appeal to ounce-counters who still appreciate comfort.
Stretching a full 88" in length, the interior of the tent is 52" wide at the head and tapers to a width of 42" at the feet. With 29 square feet of interior space and a trail weight of only 2 pounds, 14 ounces, the tent offers ample room for 2 or serves as a super spacious shelter for solo hikers. Dual vestibules offer 18 square feet (9 square feet per vestibule) of additional weather-protected external storage space. Interior mesh pockets provide places to stash gear and clothes while media pockets located above the sleeping area enable headphone/ear bud cord routing from phones or other devices. Integrated gear loft loops offer a connection point for the Big Agnes Triangle Gear Loft (sold separately).
The tent’s DAC Featherlite NFL aluminum poles are both lightweight and durable. The single hub/pole design works in conjunction with the tent body's integrated clips to make setting up the tent fast, easy, and intuitive. An additional short section of pole runs across the roof of the tent and connects easily via an innovative attachment that pulls the tent body taut, increasing the verticality of the interior walls and helping to maximize the spaciousness of the vestibules. An eco-friendly anodizing process is used by DAC to treat the poles without the toxic chemicals traditionally used on aluminum tent poles. Reflecting an overall commitment to maintaining as light a packed weight as possible, superlight aluminum J stakes are included to further secure the freestanding tent.
Ample mesh on the tent body and the large D-shaped doors encourages cross ventilation and provides circulation to fight condensation build-up. Coated with 1200mm waterproof polyurethane, the rip-stop nylon floor and rainfly are lightweight and durable. All of the tent's seams are seal-taped with waterproof, solvent-free polyurethane tape (no PVC or VOCs) to further protect the tent from the elements.
If you really want to travel light, leave the tent body at home and use the rainfly alone with the optional Copper Spur HV UL 2 Footprint (sold separately) for a tarp-style set-up that weighs a mere 2 pounds, 4 ounces.

Real Customer Reviews
- OK, but what's with the seem down the middle of the floor?
Likes: Light, good price on sale, like the orange color. Have only used this once so far.
Dislikes: Not loving the seem down the middle of the tent floor. I also have a Nemo Dagger 2 that I bought from Backcountryedge.com and like that vestibule better and that tent better overall but they are revising it for '19.
- 2 thumbs up
Likes: Angel cake light, Ez setup, plenty of room, no sense of being crowded giving rested, the needed sleep. And tuff enough
Dislikes: The waiting time before being out on the trail into the wilderness
- I am in love with this tent
Likes: So easy to set up and packed up.
Can be used freestanding.
So light to carry but strong enough and flexible enough to withstand wind.
Aeration with net, double doors and little upper "window corner".
Very comfortable and plenty of space for one person
Everything has been thought to make that tent perfect for my little trips in the Sierra
Dislikes: No dislike.
- Great tent.
Likes: I’m 6’ tall and this tent is very roomy with plenty of space for me and my pack. At slightly more then 3 lbs , there are lighter tents, but they are either going to be single wall and or more expensive.
My son has had his copper spur for almost ten years and it has held up to yearly Colorado high country hunting trips in high winds and early snows. I expect mine to last as well.
- Great Tent
Likes: Super thin yet strong fabric that is perfectly breathable. Super light and if you have another person carrying your poles, your clothes will most likely end up being heavier.
Dislikes: There is not many pockets inside at all to put stuff for easy reach, but hey if your backpacking, why do you have stuff?
- Can’t wait to actually use it
Likes: I won’t use this tent until my next backpacking trip in November, but I have set it up in the living just to see what I’m working with. I am very impressed with how light weight it is compared to how much room it has. This tent will be just fine for my solo trips as well as trips that my wife goes on with me.
Dislikes: I wish the footprint came with the tent, as it is pretty necessary to have.
- Great tent
Likes: Plenty of room
Dislikes: Doesn't come with a footprint
- LIGHTWEIGHT PACKED WITH FEATURES
Likes: Yes, this tent is a bit on the pricy side but man is it worth it. I just took it for a spin on a backpacking trip in the Rockies and it delivered. Incredibly lightweight, very spacious, and basically perfect. I cannot recommend this tent enough. The vertical sidewalls make the interior very spacious. I'm 6' tall and had about a foot of space to put precious gear below my feet. The vestibules are big enough for lots of gear as well.
Dislikes: None so far!
- Great Lightweight Tent
Likes: Comfortable, easy to pitch, sturdy in tough weather
Dislikes: The floor material is thin so it needs a footprint.
Likes: Great for backpacking, light
