The feature-rich Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 backpacking tent boasts an impressive interior space-to-weight ratio. The balance of weight and performance is sure to appeal to ounce-counters who still appreciate comfort.
Stretching a full 88" in length, the interior of the tent is 52" wide at the head and tapers to a width of 42" at the feet. With 29 square feet of interior space and a trail weight of only 2 pounds, 14 ounces, the tent offers ample room for 2 or serves as a super spacious shelter for solo hikers. Dual vestibules offer 18 square feet (9 square feet per vestibule) of additional weather-protected external storage space. Interior mesh pockets provide places to stash gear and clothes while media pockets located above the sleeping area enable headphone/ear bud cord routing from phones or other devices. Integrated gear loft loops offer a connection point for the Big Agnes Triangle Gear Loft (sold separately).
The tent’s DAC Featherlite NFL aluminum poles are both lightweight and durable. The single hub/pole design works in conjunction with the tent body's integrated clips to make setting up the tent fast, easy, and intuitive. An additional short section of pole runs across the roof of the tent and connects easily via an innovative attachment that pulls the tent body taut, increasing the verticality of the interior walls and helping to maximize the spaciousness of the vestibules. An eco-friendly anodizing process is used by DAC to treat the poles without the toxic chemicals traditionally used on aluminum tent poles. Reflecting an overall commitment to maintaining as light a packed weight as possible, superlight aluminum J stakes are included to further secure the freestanding tent.
Ample mesh on the tent body and the large D-shaped doors encourages cross ventilation and provides circulation to fight condensation build-up. Coated with 1200mm waterproof polyurethane, the rip-stop nylon floor and rainfly are lightweight and durable. All of the tent's seams are seal-taped with waterproof, solvent-free polyurethane tape (no PVC or VOCs) to further protect the tent from the elements.
If you really want to travel light, leave the tent body at home and use the rainfly alone with the optional Copper Spur HV UL 2 Footprint (sold separately) for a tarp-style set-up that weighs a mere 2 pounds, 4 ounces.

Real Customer Reviews
- Awesome quality
Likes: I set this tent up in my bedroom first night. Took about 3 minutes and everything seemed to be well thought out and quality along with being super light and roomy
Dislikes: I wish they would make it more clear which gear loft you need for each tent. A chart would help
- 1st Choice for Backpacking or Camping
Likes: I picked this tent because it is one of the lightest freestanding tents on the market and sets up in a matter of minutes. The almost vertical sideways do make it feel larger than it is and the light weight material feels strong and durable but will still need to use some caution when choosing a setup location. I am able to sleep comfortably with me and my girlfriend in the tent but solo it has plenty of room for all your gear. Overall it is now my go to when camping or out enjoying the backcountry.
Dislikes: Only comes with 8 stakes. Not enough to completely guy out the tent.
Expensive foot print.
- Easy, waterproof, roomy
Likes: Easy to set up with the hub pole design, kept out water well during a downpour in Colorado, roomy enough for two, love the vestibule area to store packs in
Dislikes: Zippers get caught easily
- Perfect Lightweight Backpacking Tent
Likes: Super Lightweight
Headroom, Plenty of Floorspace for two adults and medium dog
Mesh Upper for maximum stargazing
Thoughtfully placed gear Storage Pockets
Dislikes: Zippers can be a little cumbersome sliding around door corner when tent is staked taut
- Love this tent
Likes: This is a great tent! I've only used it once, so this is preliminary feedback. I used it in the woods backpacking a few days ago and I was impressed by how sturdy this tent is after setting it up. I didn't even use the four guy lines at the corners of the rain fly, and with just the six stakes (each corner, plus one to hold each awning) and the pole structure, it is very sturdy. I would have felt secure in this tent with a decent amount of wind even without the guy lines staked out. The interior room is awesome for one person. You can sit up and still have lots of head room. Nice interior pockets. I don't think I could improve on it from what I have seen so far. I love it. Really excellent tent.
Dislikes: None so far!
- Perfect size for 1
Likes: Easy to set up with the color coded poles. Was amazed at the lightness of the poles and was really comical that when you pull them out of the bag they just start connecting. Material is very lightweight but I haven't had the chance to use the tent a lot so durability is an unknown but reviews have been great in that regards. Zippers work well and size is perfect for 1. Yes 2 can fit but nice and roomy for 1.
Dislikes: Nothing noted at this time.
- Great tent easy setup and liked the High Walls of the tent
Likes: The roominess of the tent worked well, It setup easy and fast for those times when your late into camp or just want get camp set quickly.
- a GIFT FOR MY DAUGHTER'S 20TH BDAY
Likes: MY SON IS JEALOUS AND WANTS THE SAME ONE. THANK YOU. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM AUDREY
Dislikes: NONE SO FAR
- Great tent, but not easy on the wallet
Likes: This is my first backpacking tent and I love it so far. The tent is easy to setup and teardown. Very spacious. All materials appear to be of high quality. I am concerned about how thin the floor is, but that is the price you pay for a lightweight tent. I haven't been able to test it in a heavy rain yet, but have not had any condensation problems so far.
Dislikes: High cost of footprint. If not careful, rainfly zipper often gets stuck on rain flap.
- Initial thoughts
Likes: I purchased the Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL 2 because of its high volume(HV) capacity combined with its lightweight setup. So far it is great. Being 6'4"+ I can sit up and comfortably move around inside. Even on my knees stuffing my gear back into my pack, I have a good, wide range of motion. I have not had 2 people in it yet, but I feel that there would be a good amount of room for a backpacking tent. Setup is very easy, with the color coordinated buckles and the center hub pole system. The rain fly goes on just as easy. It is a true freestanding tent, but has more room when staked. I really like the double side doors. Side doors are easier and more convenient for myself. The double vestibules are nice and roomy. Inside there are mesh pockets everywhere, to help cope with the explosion of gear. Rain and condensation is still to be determined. Would be a great tent as a solo tent as well.
Dislikes: It is a backpacking tent, so in keeping the weight down, the fabric is really thin. I would definitely want a footprint of some sort. The zippers work good, but I would use caution as they are small and seem delicate. It does seem to pack down to a rather large size. Yet if you are using it as a 2 person tent, you could split the load easy enough.
