Likes: I know that people say you don't really need a foot print for modern tents and fabrics have gotten quite good and durable over the years and that could very well be the case but when you are backpacking at 8k to 11k the terrain changes from leafy meadows and/or grassy knolls to godless rock stricken rugged terrain. I am of the opinion that if you backpack in those types of areas you will need a foot print. This foot print is durable protects the tent and allows you to use the fast fly option. It's an essential piece of kit for my shelter system.
Dislikes: It's what everyone complains about...the price is a bit much in my opinion but I guess that's life, if you want something nice it's going to cost a bit.
- Custom footprint
Likes: It's a custom footprint: best part is that you can use it with with the rainfly and poles to really lighten your load.
Dislikes: Expensive, but it is custom made for the Copper Spur.
Likes: I liked the aspect that I can use this footprint and poles without the tent, and of course the protection aspect of the footprint. I also purchased at a discount, so worked for me.
Dislikes: Price is steep for a small piece of fabric.
Likes: Had to purchase the footprint since it's a perfect match to the tent I bought for my son for Christmas. We're both heading to Philmont this summer. Plus, we do a fair amount of backpacking throughout the year. The tent was light and offered great space.
To clarify a previous review, the footprint does attach to the rainfly (but not to the tent itself). Thus, it's only an issue (with moving the tent and footprint in unison) if you don't use the fly.
Kudos to Becky at Backcountry Edge for making special arrangements with Big Agnes since the item was out of stock. Becky even gave me the sale price. I've been a customer since 2010 and have never been disappointed with the service.
Dislikes: I agree with previous reviews that the items is expensive for what you get, but you're at Big Agnes' mercy if want a footprint that perfectly matches the tent. For the price of the Copper Spur UL-1, I would prefer that Big Agnes include this with the tent even if they need to increase the price somewhat.
Likes: Its fairly light and works for what it is intended for, protecting the tent floor.
Dislikes: It only out performs a piece of tyvek if you plan on maybe using it as a fast fly system. I was hoping it would attach to the tent itself, but the tent poles are the only thing that holds it in place. If you pick the tent up to move it after it is pitched, the footprint does not go with it. Not a deal breaker, but for the price I would like it to do more than an inexpensive piece of tyvek.
Likes: The footprint is sized to exactly fit this tent and can also be used in the "fast fly" setup which increases the flexibility of the tent. At 4 ounces, it is quite lightweight and I expect that it should increase the life of the tent floor.
Dislikes: The cost of the footprint is high for what you get. At the going price for Big Agnes tents the footprint should be an included feature in my opinion.
Likes: light weight
Dislikes: too expensive
