Large enough to shelter the entire family, the Big Agnes Big House 6 is a fully featured 3-season camping tent. Vast interior space and a 75" peak height speak to the roominess and livability of the Big House 6.
We are taking a look at the Big Agnes Big House 6 Person Tent. This is an extremely roomy, extremely comfortable tent with all of the features you need for three season family camping. It is definitely not a backpackable option, but you have got sprawling room in there. You have got a really high peak height. So the whole family can stand up in the tent. It is really easy to set up with the pole construction and all the features here. You get a lot of comfort. So we will go through the features. We have just got the tent body set up right now. We don’t have the rain fly on it yet. But it features really durable aluminum poles. You have got three poles right here for the tent body, two boles that cross over each other on the top and then one here on the front, giving you a little bit more headroom and a little bit more elbow room in the tent. So the two poles that cross over the top it is a series of sleeves and clips. So those two big sleeves on the top of the tent give it a lot of structure and a lot of support and then those clips are really easy to use. So you just thread those two big poles through the sleeves and then set everything up. So this is a free standing tent, but I do suggest staking it into the ground just so you get maximum, you know, sprawling room on the inside.
Now you have got a lot of ventilation in the top of the tent, so this is perfect for star gazing when you are in the tent, it is a clear night. You can roll back that rain fly and have lots of ventilation above you. You have got windows here that you can either close off for more security or more privacy, or open them up for more ventilation. You have got ventilation panels all over the sides as well. And then you have two doors here.
So I have got the front door facing forward and this is the door that I would access in and out. You have got a nice little floor mat that is attached to the tent and the back door I do have open right now and there is not any mesh on that back door. It is basically a panel that you can open for more ventilation. So I am going to pen this big D shaped door up.
The interior of the tent is extremely welcoming and it is going to want to make you spend a lot of time inside the tent. The sprawling dimensions are 96 inches by 122 inches and there is a 75 inch peak height. So mostly anyone can stand up in here. The whole family can be inside at the whole time and not feel crossed. And three are a lot of pockets in here. There are 16 overall. You have got pockets down along the floor so you can get gear up off the floor and there is also pockets, there is four towards the top of the tent. So you can definitely get your gear up off the floor and organize it in just the way you like.
With a big D shaped door it is really easy to get in and out of the tent. The back door here I have completely opened and, as I mentioned, that is that same taffeta material as the rest of the tent. So you can open it up if you want a lot of ventilation here. There is no mesh on the back of that door. So if you need to have it completely closed, you just zip it up and it is really easy to do that. But the dimensions here, as you can see, I can stand up in this tent. The peak height is really high. You even have some loops on the top of the tent for a gear loft that you can buy separately. So you can get even more gear up off the ground. So the inside of this tent is just extremely comfortable. It is your home away from home.
We have got the rain fly on the tent now and the rain fly is completely waterproof. It is seam taped. You have got durable, polyester, rip stop material. So there is a lot of durability there. But the one thing I want to point out is they give you plenty of coverage from the elements. I have this front door open, but if you have got some rain coming in, you can definitely zip that off and you have got enough waterproof protection there. And then the back door as well I have open. You don’t have true vestibules with the rain fly here. So the vestibule here is just this little awning. And in the back you have a little awning as well. But there are no true vestibules that actually come down and zip closed.
You can purchase a Big Agnes Big House accessory vestibule for the front here and that vestibule is going to zip closed. It is going to give you all the full coverage that you need and it is going to give you a little bit more gear storage. But just the tent by itself is going to certainly give you enough waterproof protection from the elements.
All along the rain fly there are guy out points and guy out lines. Those guy out lines are reflective and the points are reflective so you can find the tent easily at night. And they certainly give you enough stakes and lines to stake out the tent really well. But if you do anticipate needing to guy out every single point and stake out every point, I would suggest bringing along some extra stakes and lines.
Another thing that I really like about this rain fly is that they do color coded clips here. So on the front of the tent you have got yellow clips. On the back of the tent you have got black. So you just have to line those up and then this little awning here does have an additional pull. It has got a little sleeve on the inside, so you just route that sleeve through ... route that pole though the sleeve and then you have got your awning. So really smart design here, really easy to set up. When you are ready to pack everything away, it comes with a really smart stuff sack. The stuff sack you can carry it on your shoulder, so really easy carrying from the car to the campsite. There is separate pockets for the stakes, the poles, the rain fly and the vestibule so you can compartmentalize everything and really pack it away well.
With all the features here, you get a great design, easy set up, durable construction and room for the whole family. It is the Big Agnes Big House 6 Person Camping Tent.
