Ideal for day hiking, adventure racing and other active pursuits, the Berghaus Hyper 22 day pack is sleek and functional. Despite weighing just over a pound, the Hyper 22 has surprising durability and a set of features that equip it for high performance.
The ultra light weight and supportive Berghaus Hyper 22 Day Pack is the perfect blend of fast and light and support. We are going to take a look at all the features and talk about why this is such a great pack for light weight day hiking, adventure racing or anywhere that you want to go fast and light.
The first thing to talk about with any backpack is the suspension system and how it carries the load. Now this is a very light weight pack. It is a 22 liter pack. So you have got a very light weight suspension system, but you have also got a lot of padding here in the shoulder straps and in the hip belt. And it is more padding than I have seen in some ultra light weight packs like this, but it doesn't add a lot of weight. So on the back panel here you have the adventure super light suspension system. So there is a perforated foam back panel here behind the back of the pack and you can actually remove that foam if you want to go even lighter weight, but that foam is very light weight in and of itself. And, like I said, it is perforated so they take some of the weight of out it.
Also back there you have the option to put a hydration system. So it doesn't come with that, but you can add one separately. And then here on the shoulder straps on the back you have got a little webbing loop on ether side where you can route that hose if you need to.
The straps here, as I said, are nicely padded and they have a lot of mesh. So it is going to breathe and it is going to give you a lot of support. They are also contoured. So, like I said, unlike some ultra light weight day packs that I have seen with other brands, this is going to give you a lot of support. It is going to help you carry the load more comfortably.
You have an adjustable sternum strap and you do have a whistle on that strap.
Down here at the hip belt you have really easy adjustability there and you have a very light weight hip belt. You have got a lot of support down there as well, on the hip belt, but also it is super breathable. So you also have some light weight mesh on either side. And while I am down here talking about the hip belt, I am going to mention how big the hip belt pockets are. I have seen light weight packs that have really tiny hip belt pockets. You can’t really get much in there. But on these, on this side, I just have a cell phone, really easy in and out. I could also put other things like gels or granola bars, anything like that in this side. This is kind of a nylon rip stop material. And then on the other side you have got a stretchy mesh pocket. So just to show you the size, I have got five granola bars stuffed in there, just to show you that size. So it is really stretchy. I can see if you are racing or if you are going fast and needing to, you know, pack a lot of food in there and throughout the day, you know, you consume that food. This pocket isn’t super heavy, because it is light weight, but it is really stretchy so you can put a lot in there.
The rest of the pockets and organization is really stream lined and simple but also extremely functional. So starting up here at the top, there is a pocket up here just to store essentials that you might want to get your hands on quickly. So I just have a first aid kit in the top there.
Moving to the front of the pack, this is a top loading pack, so you have a really, really big open lid that exposes just the main body of the pack. There is a small pocket underneath that lid for small items. Really easy to use, wide open top to the pack. You have big stretchy pockets on either side. And I just have a water bottle in there, same pocket on the other side. And a nice stretchy pocket on the front. So I just have a really ultra light weight layer in there. So you can see the size of that pocket.
Something I really love about this pack, you have a cord that runs all along the front and you can use this to lash gear or you can use this just to simply compress the pack. So if you don't have it packed out completely, you have compression all the way around the pack that you can really secure your gear into the pack and you don’t have to worry about it moving around while you are moving fast.
You have simple tool loops down here on the bottom. And that rounds out the features.
Overall, this is a really multi functional pack. Like I said, it would be great for adventure racing or activities where you are moving fast, but also you just want to take this out for a day hike or even as a great travel pack. You can really compress it down when you need to and you can pack it out completely also when you need to.
The materials here are both light weight and very durable and you have really great construction here with Berghaus.
It is the Hyper 22 back pack.
