Lightweight and responsive, the hybrid suede and nylon Asolo Women’s Mustang GV hiking boot delivers excellent fit, reliable traction, and waterproof/breathable GORE-TEX protection for long days on the trail.
Lightweight and responsive, the Asolo Women’s Mustang GV hiking boots are a perfect option for day hiking and overnights. You have a very flexible fit, a very nice fit. You have got reliable traction here on the bottom and you have got a pretty lightweight package here, but there is also a lot of support. So getting into the specifics of the shoe the top here in the upper you have got a mixture of a couple of different materials. You have got suede here to give it durability and the suede is in those places where the shoe is going to experience a lot of abrasion. So that really gives a lot of durability. There is overlays there in those key areas as well. And then above that you have got really durable nylon. The nylon is a little lighter weight than the suede and it is in those areas that you don’t have as much abrasion. So you don’t need all that durability. So they found ways to really lighten up the shoe, again, to make it really responsive and to fit well on your foot. So because of that there is a shorter break in time and these feel a little bit more comfortable right out of the box than a full grain leather shoe.
Along with that durability you have got a rubber toe rand on the front here. That protects your toes from rocks, but it also protects the shoe. So it gives durability there. And then a heel counter in the back. And you can feel it is a little more rigid back there in the heel. So as you do break in these shoes that heel isn’t going anywhere. You are still going to be able to really cinch down the shoes, cinch in your heel to the back of the boot and that cuts down on blisters.
Along with that, with the eyelets here you have mostly metal eyelets. On the middle you have got a fabric eyelet and that is kind of connected down there with the heel of the shoe. So, again, as you are cinching that down and really pulling down on that section in the middle here, you are going to pull your heel into the heel of the boot.
Moving up, this is, you know, it definitely has a higher collar here than a normal day hiking shoe, but it is not as high as a full out backpacking boot. And around the ankle part of the boot you have got really flexible materials here. They are very comfortable. So you can really cinch down on those and it is not going to irritate your ankle. I found that part of the shoe to be very comfortable and flexible. So as you are hiking, you are on different, you know, different trails and the trail kind of is crooked in some places, that is going to flex with your ankle, but it is also going to provide support there.
This is a Gore-Tex shoe so you have got complete waterproof protection for small stream crossings, mud, wet grass and rain and that sort of thing. So that is going to protect your feet from getting wet. And the gusseted tongue comes most of the way up the shoe, maybe to the second eyelet there. So you have got protection, waterproof protection most of the way up the shoe.
Moving down to the midsole, that is where you get all of your cushioning and support. It is molded EVA foam. So it is very comfortable. It is cushiony, but it is not going to break down really fast. So you are going to have a lot of durability there and a lot of comfort and there is also a stiffness to this shoe that Asolo is using their asoflex lasting board. That is gender specific, so you don’t have the same lasting board for men and for women with Asolo shoes. You have got a women’s specific fit here. And that gives rigid support in the midsole. It is also a little bit flexible. So, you know, it is going to protect against rocks and it is going to protect against your foot really getting tired over long days on the trail. But it is really lightweight. So the way they have constructed it they were able to have it be a stiff lasting board, but also be very lightweight. So it is excellent to know that.
Moving out to the outsole, you have high quality vibram rubber down there on the outsole. This is going to last a long time. And just taking a look at the different components, you do have a little bit of a heel. That is going to provide some extra traction, but it is not a really tall heel. So, you know, in keeping with the lightweight feel of this shoe it is just a, you know, a little heel there. There is lugs that definitely give a lot of traction and the rubber here on the outsole feels like it would be great in pretty much any terrain. So on slabby areas you are definitely going to have a lot of traction. In mud, rock, that sort of thing it is going to be great. And, you know, what I can expect from Asolo here, they do have kind of a flatter and stiffer area right here on the toe. So that is going to give you great purchase on those slabby areas where you really need to dig in and have great traction.
One thing that is really great about this outsole is that after you are wearing it for long periods of time, maybe a year or two, and that starts breaking down, you are actually able to get the outsole resoled. And that adds a lot of value to this shoe, because once you get a pair of boots, you break them in, you know you love them, you know, you want to keep wearing them. So instead of having to buy a brand new pair of shoes, break those in. You can actually get the outsole resoled by Asolo.
Something I really appreciate about Asolo and I think is unique about Asolo is that they are a family owned Italian company. They materials used for all of their shoes and boots are 99 percent sourced in Europe. And all their shoes are 100 percent made in Europe, in Asolo owned factories. So, you know, in my opinion that is something very unique and special about Asolo.
All in all the women’s Mustang GV hiking boots are a great, lightweight, flexible option for day hikes, overnights or traveling or any adventure you can throw at them.
