Moderately cushioned and equipped with all-surface traction, the Altra Running Men’s Lone Peak 3.5 trail running shoe is a workhorse that can tackle everything from short, quick outings to 100 milers. It’s combination of supportiveness, breathability, and responsiveness has even led to it being used by ounce-counting thru-hikers.
As with all Altra Running shoes, it has a FootShape toe box that differs greatly from the aggressive taper of traditional running shoes. This design lets your big toe remain in a straight position while allowing your other toes to spread naturally. This broader cut reduces the risk of bunions, hammer toes, and plantar fasciitis. The shoe also utilizes a Zero Drop platform (height of the heel and the forefront are the same) that encourages a natural stride rather than elevating the heel or manipulating foot position. This is meant to promote better alignment and a more natural posture while on the move which in turn lessens impact.
The quick-drying, reinforced mesh upper strikes an excellent balance between breathability and durability. An integrated 4-point GaiterTrap allows for the easy attachment of Altra gaiters (sold separately). A dual-layer EVA midsole delivers comfort and reduces fatigue. A protective StoneGuard reduces the impact of rocks and roots underfoot.
The shoe has a stack height of 25 mm and weighs in at just over 1 pound, 3.4 ounces per pair. The MaxTrac rubber outsole with TrailClaw has a tacky surface and a lug pattern that together deliver excellent traction on a wide array of terrain.
Sold in pairs and your choice of color options, the Altra Running Men’s Lone Peak 3.5 trail running shoe is available in men’s full and half sizes.

- Excellent Shoe
Likes: My second pair of these over 4 years, and they fit my needs perfect. Use as a summer hiking shoe here in the Colorado High Country. These seem even better than my last pair.
- Best Altra Yet!
Likes: Super comfortable right out of the box. Incredible improvement from the 2.5 version in both look and function. Wide toe box, 4 gaiter attachment points, breathable, well cushioned, and they just look good.
Dislikes: They run a half size small. Not sure about the durability, time will tell.
