- Tasty backpacking food
Likes: I was curious to know what was in the pack before I bought it so I will share what my pack contained: 2 creamy cheddar soup, 2 Santa Fe black beans and rice, 1 Leonardo Da Fettuccine, 1 forever young mac and cheese, 1 cheesy enchilada ranchero, 1 spaghetti marinara, 1 three cheese lasagna, 1 pasta roma, 1 veggie burrito bowl, 1 mountain chili, 1 wild quinoa pilaf, and 1 himalayan Lentils and rice. The food tasted good, was light for packing, and couldn't be easier to prepare. I was pleased with the portion after it was rehydrated. I would purchase this again.
Dislikes: The veggie burrito bowl was personally my least favorite.
Likes: so far all tastes rather good. like the lunch and dinner options.
Dislikes: a little bulky for long 10 day packing but hey ya gotta eat.
- Good product
Likes: Taste and ease of use
- Tastes great!
Likes: Tastes great. Easy to prepare (as all dehydrated meals). We include other "snacks" on our trips so the Serving size is just about right.
Dislikes: Some may want a bigger serving size.
- Great variety of meals for an amazing price
Likes: This meal kit gives you a lot of options before you set on your next adventure. All of the meals (with the exception of the creamy potato cheddar soup) are at least 250 calories per serving, with two servings per pouch. My girlfriend and I have tried a few of these meals and here are our ratings so far (where 0 is terrible and 5 is awesome): Cheese enchilada ranchero (4 stars), Pasta Roma (4 stars), Santa Fe Black Beans and Rice (3.5 stars), Mac and Cheese (3.5 stars), Veggie Burrito Bowl (2 stars). The expiration dates are years out so there is plenty of time to finish the kit. The cost per meal, per person comes out to $2.50 at the current price as of Jan. 2017. I haven't found a better priced option out there. I see this as a great base kit to which you add other options. For example, a lot of these meals could be coupled with freeze dried chicken (not included) to add some protein. I also recommend bringing a couple dessert meals (also not included) for those longer hiking days where you've burned a lot of calories.
Dislikes: Hopefully AlpineAire will replace the veggie burrito bowl meal with something else. It is one of the most bland freeze dried meals I've ever had. Bring some Sriracha along to combat this. The rest of the meals have been better though!
