The flexible, high-traction adidas Outdoor Women’s Terrex Fast X High GTX boot a great option for high-mileage hikes. A GORE-TEX membrane keeps your feet dry on wet, muddy trails and a synthetic upper offers durability and breathability.
We are taking a look at the light weight and supportive women’s Adidas Outdoor Terrex Fast X High GTX Boots. These are the perfect option for a hiker, backpacker, fast packer or through hiker that is looking for a supportive boot that is not going to weigh them down.
These shoes have all of the features that you would expect from a nice supportive boot, but they are very light weight. So we are going to go through the features and take a look at what makes these boots so special.
First, taking a look at the upper, it is composed completely of synthetic materials. And you have really smart design, a couple of different materials, lighter weight and more durable materials in places where you need a little bit more durability, so here on... around the heel you have got some more durable material. Over top of your foot it is a more breathable material. So, you know, these are going to breathe with you as you move and as you work up a sweat. And since they are synthetic materials it is a little bit lighter weight than you would have with a leather boot. You have a lot of protection here, because it is a Gore-Tex boot as well. So the whole interior of this shoe is lined with Gore-Tex and that is breathable yet waterproof protection.
There are six eyelets here on the boot and the top two are metal eyelets. So you have a lot of durability there. That is going to enable you to really cinch that down and have really good fit with these boots. And then the ones down here on the bottom, four fabric eyelets. And that really keeps the weight down. But they are very durable. And the eyelets are reinforced to come down the shoe as well. So you have a lot of versatility there. You can cinch those down and really have a great fit. If you need to loosen the shoes up a little bit more you can do that. And I have found that these are spaced pretty far apart across the top of the shoe. So that just enables you, if you need to, if you have a lower volume foot. You can really cinch those down. If you have a higher volume foot you can really loosen those out.
Up here at the top at the tongue you have an asymmetrical tongue which fits really well over top of your foot. And it is a very cushiony material. You have some mesh in there, so that is going to be cushioned around the ... around your ankle and allow you to have a good fit there. But, again, with that breathability it is going to be really nice with a mesh over top.
Up here on the front a really nice rubber toe cap so that is going to provide more durability for the boot itself, but it is also going to provide protection for your toes.
On the inside you have an OrthoLite sock liner. If I pull that out, you can replace this with your own insole or your own sock liner. But it provides a little bit of cushioning on the inside of the shoe, really good quality OrthoLite liner there.
Down here in the midsole of the shoe you have a couple of different materials. You have got some stiff, more rigid material that is going to protect you from rocks and over long days on the trail that is really going to protect your feet. But you also have cushioning. So you have some foam in there. Adidas Outdoor is using their Adiprene plus foam cushioning throughout the shoe. So with those different materials it is a really smart design. It keeps the weight of the shoe down a little bit. But, like I said, you know, this is meant for back packing and hiking so you do have a pretty rigid shoe there. And the outsole and the midsole actually wrap up around the side of the shoe as well. You can see it here on the outside and the inside of the shoe. That provides a lot of protection for the shoe itself. But also as you are hiking on uneven terrain and if your foot is rolling and that kind of thing it is definitely going to provide a lot of cushioning and a lot of protection there.
The shape of the midsole and the outsole of these shoes has a forward rocking motion. And this is just going to aid in if you are moving fast, if you are fast packing. It is not something that is really noticeable if you are just wearing the shoes, so you are not going to feel like your shoes are rocking back and forth, but it definitely propels your feet forwards. So that is an intentional design here if you are moving fast.
If I take a look at the outsole of the shoe, you definitely have some really nice lugs here so you get really great traction with the trail. And Adidas is using Continental rubber here on the outsole that has a really bitey grip. So it is kind of a sticky rubber. Again, it provides a lot of traction. And the lugs here are an interesting design. You have a hinged heel here in the back. And that aids in just, you know, as you... in putting your heel down on every step it is going to help, again, with that kind of forward motion of these shoes.
You don’t really have a really high heel on these shoes, but you definitely have a little bit more height back here in the heel. And then as you move forward the lugs are directional. So on any terrain, moving up and moving down hill, these are going to be great.
