Ultraviolet protection factor, or what’s better known as a UPF rating, is commonly found on different sort of clothing. It could be shirts, shorts, pants, hats, you’ll find it on all sorts of different places, and it’s basically a sun protection rating. It’s very similar to an SPF. So typically the higher the number of the UPF rating the better protection you’re going to get from ultraviolet rays from the sun. UPF’s are currently regulated by the EPA. Any company that’s producing a garment that has a tag stating it has a UPF rating, means that they went to the EPA, had that garment tested for that rating. So you can be certain that you’re actually getting that rating when you buy that garment.
