This is the women’s Xenon 15 degree down sleeping bag. It is made by Marmot and it is the women’s counterpart to Marmot’s Helium 15 degree down sleeping bag.
This bag is filled with 850 fill power goose down. So it is going to be very compressible and offer some nice loft and warmth for three season back packing and camping. It works really well as a bag for back packers because that compressibility is going to be excellent for anybody going out in the spring or fall where they are not sure what the temperatures are going to be like. And it is an excellent bag for through hikers as well.
The Xenon weighs in at two pounds nine ounces, so it is not too much to carry there for that 15 degree temperature rating and I would also like to note it being a women’s specif-ic bag, it is only available in a single length and that fits to five feet six inches. And so if you are a woman and you are over that height or you are shorter man, this bag could be an option for you. If you are taller than that five six you are probably going to want to take look at the Helium or another women’s option.
So Marmot uses a horizontal baffling system here. You get a great look at it inside the bag. And they are using their stretch treco baffles and what that means is the material that is holding the baffles together has a little bit of stretch in it. That way when you are stuff-ing and unstuffing the bag over and over in and out of its stuff sack for use, it is not going to tear those baffles. That is one of the reasons why I think this is an excellent bag for a through hiker, someone that is using this bag day in and day out.
Xenon has a full length zipper here with the Marmot snag free zipper pulls. And they do have a nice, well insulated draft tube behind the zipper here. It really keeps the heat in the bag.
Around the head you have got a single draw cord adjustment. And this bag is meant to be light weight and a simplified minimal design. So you are not going to find a lot of extra draw cords. You are not going to have any extra pockets of that sort. You do have a nice clean zipper guard at the top here to keep the zipper from digging into your chin at night. And typical of Marmot they have got their nautilus hood here, so you have got six different baffles. Turn that around and see if you can get a better look at it. You have got six different baffles involved in the making to this hood. So you get a great ergonomic fit that is also really thermally efficient.
So here is the bottom end of that full length zipper. It is a two way zipper so you see you can have access at the bottom of the bag. Here you can let some air in and out or stick your feet out if you are really too warm at night. And in tradition of making a truly ther-mal efficient bag, this is a mummy bag. You are not going to have a zipper that runs to the bottom of the foot box or around the bottom. That would not be thermally efficient. So zipper ends here. You have got about a foot of space here which goes right into Mar-mot’s classic trapezoidal foot box. You see there is true dimensionality to the foot box design here as well as separate baffles allows for a more natural, comfortable positioning of the feet at night as well as that thermal efficiency and they have added a couple of hang loops here that are great for storing the bag or hanging it up to dry should it get wet.
So here is the women’s Xenon in its stuff sack. It does come with a stuff sack. It is pretty easy to get it in there. I would probably replace it with a compressions stuff sack. You would get it even smaller. You can take a look a the size there.
It is a great three season bag. It is a good offering for women. It weighs in at two pounds, nine ounces. It is the women’s Xenon 15 degree sleeping bag by Marmot.
