This is the Granite Gear Block Rock Solid Compression Sack. It helps you cinch down bulky items like sleeping bags, layers and other gear to take the best advantage of the space available inside your backpack. The Block Rock Solid compression sack comes in a variety of colors and sizes. We’ve got a 22 liter version here and are going to use it to put three fairly bulky items, a sleeping bag, a softshell jacket, a camp towel, and get those compressed down to a size that will work a little better inside my backpack. The Block Rock Solid compression sack is constructed of 210D nylon which is a very durable, abrasion resistant fabric. It is not waterproof but it will certainly lend a nice level of protection to the contents of the sack. A sleeping bag is likely to be the bulkiest item that you will be putting inside you pack and it’s often imperative that you get it down to a smaller size. At the top of the Block Rock Solid compression sack is a drawstring closure. Skinny cord here keeps weight to a minimum and a small cord lock helps to keep the weight in check. There is a panel that comes over the top of the sack with four separate compression straps on either side. Cinch those down and you can see that we’ve taken those three bulky items and gotten them down to a much, much more manageable size. You’ll notice the shaping of the compression sack is not perfectly round. This is an intentional, space saving shape that more closely mirrors the interior of your backpack and ensures that space doesn’t go to waste. This is the packaging that the Block Rock Solid Compression Sack comes in. It reflects Granite Gears commitment to not letting anything go to waste. This is completely re-useable as a stand-alone stuff sack with a mesh face and full zippered access, prefect for putting any kind of small item inside. This is the 22 liter version of this stuff sack so it’s pretty big. Smaller compression sacks will come in a slightly smaller pocket and larger stuff sacks a slightly bigger sack. Any and all of them will actually connect to a Granite Gear backpack for use as a minimalist hip belt pocket.
