Garmont Women's Amica Mid GTX Hiking Shoe Video

Transcript

We’re taking a look at Garmont’s women’s Amica Mid GTX. This is a lightweight hiking shoe and it’s going to be fantastic on long day hikes or any sort of a hike where you’re walking without a lot of weight on your back. Maybe you could get away with some ultra lightweight backpacking, but over all that’s not what the shoe is designed for, it is a hiking shoe. If you take a look at the upper here you can see that it is made out of a leather and fabric construction and there is a full Gore-tex bootie in here as well so you’re going to have complete waterproofness throughout the shoe. You are well protected there from the weather, and these fabric patches that we see here that are intermingled with the leather construction are going to help with that breathability and this will be a comfortable shoe year round. Underfoot you’ve got a combination of polyurethane and an EVA midsole. You do have a half shank in the back half of this shoe so you’ve got good protection underfoot as well as stability and structure through the shoe for climbing steep ascents and descents as well as rough and rocky or rooty terrain. In the forefoot you do have shock absorption and protection too. On the very bottom of the shoe you have a Vibram rubber outsole. This is a very durable rubber and you get some blocked lugs that are going to offer great traction on slippery trails. A very unique feature to Garmont’s design as well as the fit in their footwear is what they call anatomical direct design or ADD. A really good opportunity to see this is going to be on the collar of the shoe. You can see that in the design of the tongue there is a bit more padding on this side at the outer edge of you foot, versus the inside of your foot. You can also see it in the outer collar. There is more padding on the inside of the ankle than the outside of the ankle and the concept behind this design is to work with the asymmetry of your foot, since you have more bone structure on the outside of your foot than on the inside of your foot. In those places you may need more or less padding because the padding there tends to rub and create blisters. So Garmont has a really unique story there in the fit of this shoe and you’ll notice that throughout the shoe itself, although it is often very slight. For example, the lacing system here is at a slight off angle throughout the upper of the shoe which is designed to work with the asymmetry of the foot. The lacing system on the Amica Mid GTX is going to be a combination of webbing and metal eyelets and as you can see here, you have this webbing retention system here across the mid-foot. For those of you who like a lot of support and a snug fit throughout that part of the shoe, the lacing system being anchored in here is going to give you that. So you’ve got a lot of great support in the shoe and adjustability with that lacing system.
