If you’re looking for maximum versatility, the Eagle Creek Switchback Max 22 just might be the pack for you. The Switchback is equipped with a fully functional backpack-style suspension system. There is an adjustable harness, padded backpanel, load-lifter straps and an adjustable sternum strap for a comfortable fit. There’s a fully padded hipbelt that also aids in carrying comfort. Unclip the shoulder straps on either side, pull the panel at the bottom. You can tuck away that entire suspension system and it gives it a nice clean profile and protects that suspension system and allows you to use the Switchback Max 22 as a wheeled piece. You can see those oversized wheels. Tucked away at the top of the pack is a one-touch handle. Easy deployment makes the Switchback Max 22 roll easily and smoothly both in the airport and outside the airport. In addition, here on the front of the pack, this large front pocket detaches entirely and can be used as a fully functional daypack. The front pocket is secured to the Switchback Max 22 with buckled compression straps and a zipper. Detaching that front pocket gives you a good look at the suspension system here on the back of what is now your day pack. Padded shoulder straps, padded hipbelt, slight wrap there on the hipbelt and a fairly minimalist but fully functional webbed hipbelt. While I’ve got it turned around, I’ll show off this nice, zippered security pocket. Especially when you’re traveling, this is just an ideal spot for travel documents, money, any kind of valuables that will be secured against your actual back. There is a pass-through here that allows you to put that over the top of handles on wheeled luggage. Turning the day pack around, you can see durable, stylish Helix materials and some bolstering at wear points with this more durable burlier, Bi Tech material. On either side of the day pack, we’ve got zippered, expandable water bottle pockets that will safely secure any type of bottle – good size on those. On the face here you can see a really nice organizer pocket. A few things tucked away there: camera, phone, headlamp, key fob for your keys. And then a large interior for carrying just about anything you need during the day. I’ve got a rain shell in there. And a fully padded and suspended lap top sleeve. Nice feature both as the front pocket and as the stand-alone day pack. Both the front pocket as the day pack and the Switchback Max 22 (once that pocket is removed) are approved for carry-on usage. We do, however, always recommend since restrictions do change, that you check with your airline prior to travel. These same straps that secure the front pocket can serve as compression straps for the main pack bag when that front pocket is removed. Before I look inside the main body, I’ll show this front pocket. The front pocket here is deep, a lot of storage in there. It’s actually the back side of a panel that I’ll show you in a moment. There is a front, zippered pass-through that gets you into the main pack bag without actually opening the face of the Switchback Max. A nice burly zipper opens wide and grants full access to the interior of the Switchback Max. Here’s that mesh panel. You’ve got zippered access there and good breathability. It helps you separate dirty and clean gear, perhaps. Two compression straps inside here keep the contents securely in place. A nice deep pocket here inside the Switchback Max 22 – nice depth in terms of all kinds of things tucked away in here. Eagle Creek Pack-It accessories help with storage and organization.
