I am wearing the Deuter Cruise 30. The cruise series of backpacks from Deuter have or-ganizational and access features that make them ideal for skiing, snowboarding and all types of winter sports.
Certainly one of the stand out features on the Cruise backs is their ability to easily carry snow shoes, snow boards, skis. There is multiple options in play here in terms of the way you lash those items to the pack.
I want to turn the pack around and take a closer look at the alpine suspension system from Deuter. You have got two vertical strips of foam padding which also creates a chan-nel between where hot air can pass so it helps to keep you a little cooler while you are wearing this pack. It keeps heat from building up. Full padding throughout the contoured shoulder straps. Full padding on the full wrap hip belt. Slightly different contouring on a women’s model of this pack. Again, we are looking at the men’s specific Cruise 30.
Another nice stand out feature for winter usage is the fact that this rear access panel al-lows you to get into the interior of the pack without having to lay that suspension system in the snow and go in the front, really nice of winter usage.
The alpine system is a fixed suspension system so you don’t have a range of torso adjust-ability here. However, you do have points of adjustment, load lifter straps, a sternum strap and that buckle doubles as a safety whistle. Also multiple points of adjustment on that hip belt.
I have turned the cruise pack back around so we are looking at the front of the pack. It is a lidded pack. A zippered pocket underneath, zippered pocket on the back so some nice storage options there. You can see the imprinted S.O.S. panel beneath the lid that is pretty standard on Deuter packs. The is a double storm collar closure inside the pack which really helps to protect the contents of the pack. In addition to that access point that we have already looked at on the rear panel, there is also a large zippered front pocket. We have got some traction devices in here. There is tool pockets and sleeves in there, as well, which is really handy, again, for winter climbing or other types of snow sports.
You have got dual mesh pockets on the side which are perfect for water bottles or secur-ing other gear in place. The cross over compression straps help to cinch down the load and those come into play when we are lashing skis, snowboards, snow shoes to the front of the pack.
We have got heavy haul loops here on the side. You have also got trekking pole and ice axe tool attachments on the face of this pack.
So with his combination of organizational features, its ability to carry all of that gear on the outside while maintaining a clean profile, Deuter Cruise series packs is really perfect options for winter sports.
