Hi I’m Garth, I am with Big Agnes and I am here to share with you some of the differences that set Big Agnes sleep systems apart from more traditional sleeping bags. One of the first things that you will notice when you are looking at a Big Agnes sleeping bag is that on the back of every bag, on the bottom side, there is a sleeve in to which you can put your sleeping pad. One of the great advantages of having your bag and pad together in a system is that your bag can no longer slide off of the pad, which means that you will be able to stay on the pad all night long even if you are on one of those sloped campsites. Another real advantage to having a pad inside the bag is that when you roll inside your bag, your bag stays in place. You keep the insulation on top where is helps trap your body heat and your keep the lesser insulation on the bottom where it belongs. This way your 15 degree bag will remain a 15 degree bag and does not become a 30 degree bag. It is important to keep in mind that all temperature ratings on all bags are based on using a 0 degree sleeping pad. In the case of Big Agnes, because of the system we know that you are going to stay on your pad and we aren’t bound with the usual construction that requires insulation on the bottom of your bag in the event that you slide off of your pad. It allows us to then redistribute our insulation to where it is going to do you the most good and you won’t carry excess insulation, you don’t have to pay for excess insulation, and you don’t have that extra bulk. In addition to being able to keep you on the pad all night long, and the ability to roll without the bag rolling around, you will also never find yourself waking up in the middle of the night with the zipper underneath you digging into your shoulder. You will always know where the zipper is in the middle of the night if you need to get out, in a hurry, and the other is that it is kind of handy when you have a nice firm mattress inside the sleeve of the bag, your zipper is held firm so you find very few times when the zipper will actually get snagged when you are zipping it up of zipping it closed. The sleeves on the bottom all the Big Agnes bags were designed to accept the most common sized pads on the market today. If you have a pad that fits a Big Agnes system right now, you are good to go. If you don’t, you will want to take a look at some of the Big Agnes pads. We offer more variety and sizes than any other company available today.
