Big Agnes Copper Spur UL 2 Backpacking Tent Video

Transcript

I am sitting inside the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL 2. This is part of their ultra lightweight backpacking tent line. Things you can expect from this tent are going to be light weight fabrication as well as minimal design concepts. It is going to be a great minimal shelter for anybody who needs to get out of the rain, wind while you are backpacking and you don’t want your tent to weigh you down. Let’s take a look at some of the features. So I mentioned this is a two person tent. So there is space to get two people in there with your standard 20 inch wide sleeping pads. It is a little bit wider cut at this end where I would put the head or you can kind of put head to feet to make it a little bit more comfortable. It is a little more narrow at this end. It allows for a little bit more of a minimal weight design. But there is plenty of room for two folks in there and just to increase that comfort level wit this tent, you do have two doors. You have got one on the side here, one on this side here. It does come with a full coverage fly that offers two vestibules and we will take a look at that in a little bit. Tent body is made up of a light weight noseeum mesh netting here over the top of the tent here. It allows for awesome breathability, especially in warm weather. The bottom of the tent you can see you have got some nylon material here. It is also very light weight, does pass vapor through it accordingly. So it is going to be a very breathable tent and very suitable for warm summer time backpacking that sort of thing. Copper Spur UL 2 uses aluminum poles. They are DAC/NSL style poles. So they are very light weight and durable. The pole structure itself is a hub series so you have got a hub here. You have got one at the other end and you have got a connecting point in the center her. This is a separate pole. It does come apart so when you go to set this tent up you actually have two separate poles, this one and then a the series connected to the hubs you see here. This allows for the architecture pole design to really open up the top of the tent, increase that livable space inside the tent without giving you a whole bunch of poles that you have to figure out where they go and where they attach to. The inside of is tent has some storage space. You have got a couple of mesh pockets here and here and smaller ones down here on either side. And if you need even more space than that, Big Agnes does make a gear {?}. You can buy them separately and there are tabs at the top of the tent to tie and anchor those into. This tent comes with a full coverage fly. All the seams are taped on it so it is completely water proof. The same is true of the floor. It is ready to go. It is weather worthy. As you can see you have got a vestibule here and you have gone one on either side. It is a bigger space there, enough to tuck a pack and a pair of boots. We have got some nice Velcro pieces here that kind of secure this rain flap over the zipper so you don’t need to worry about water coming into the vestibule either. Fly attaches to the tent body through a fast text buckle here. You go ahead and cinch that down. It is nice and tight and you have a loop to use a stake with. At the wire end of the tent on the fly here you have got a vent so you have got a fold down piece here. This kind of tucks out of the way when you are not using it with a Velcro tab to seal that down if the weather is really bad. But for the most part you can just kind of pop it up there. It gives you some great air flow and there is mesh underneath of there. You have got good coverage on the side here and you will notice at the bottom there is a tie out a point and Big Agnes has included a guideline with that as well. So go ahead and stake that out. You are going to get great air flow underneath the tent as well and at the side point here you can see you have also got a guide out point with guideline attached. The Copper Spur UL 2 has a pack weight of three pounds nine ounces. That would include all the items that you would need to set the tent up and stake it out and have it be ready to go. There is a trail weight of three pounds two ounces. That does not include the stakes of the guidelines or any sort of... anything extraneous. It would only include the tent body itself, the fly and the pole structure. A footprint of the Copper Spur UL 2 is sold separately. I do recommend that you purchase it since the floor is a fairly light weight material and if you do purchase that footprint you will be able to do Big Agnes’ fast fly set up which would mean you would be taking the fly, the poles and that footprint only. You can leave the tent body at home if the weather is going to be fairly nice and warm. You have got are really light weight tarp style shelter. It is the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL 2.
