Bonding a layer of open-cell self-inflating foam to a puncture-resistant base layer of closed-cell foam, the ToughSkin sleeping pad provides versatility for whatever adventure you intend to tackle.

The dual construction of the ToughSkin sleeping pad adds durability, increases comfort and makes the ToughSkin a stand-out performer in cold climates or winter conditions. In fact, by adding a double layer of protection, the ToughSkin sleeping pad actually offers a full 2 points more of R-value than the classic Therm-a-Rest ProLite 4! Though heavier and bulkier than the ProLite 4, the ToughSkin offers greater warmth when temperatures drop.

The upper layer of cushioning on the ToughSkin sleeping pad is provided by an expandable, self-inflating foam core. When you unroll the pad and open the valve, the open-celled foam responds by soaking up air, similar to a sponge absorbing liquid. Once the ToughSkin pad has been given adequate time to fully inflate, the firmness of the pad can be fine-tuned by simply adding a few extra puffs of air or releasing air before fully closing the valve.

The ToughSkin sleeping pad is provided with additional protection and cushioning by a bonded layer of closed-cell foam. This sturdy, dense foam helps to eliminate punctures from stones or thorns, ensuring that the open-cell foam above is protected from leakage. Unlike completely self-inflating pads, even in the unlikely case that the ToughSkin would be punctured, the closed-cell foam would still continue to provide back-up cushioning and protection from the elements.

Accommodating different users, the Therm-a-Rest ToughSkin sleeping pad is available in Med (20" x 66") and Reg (20" x 72") and Large (25" x 77") size offerings.
