Updated for 2008! The recipient of a 2004 Editor's Choice Award by Backpacker Magazine, the Sierra Designs Lightning is a versatile, lightweight 3-season, 2-person tent. Sturdy, well-ventilated and full of features, the Lightning is at home on the trail as it is in a campground.

Designed to shelter two backpackers or campers, the Lightning offers 31 sq. ft. of usable interior space. Sewn-in pockets serve as interior gear hideaways and a sizeable vestibule provides an additional 9 sq. ft. of sheltered space for cooking or storing gear outside of the main tent body.

DAC Featherlite NSL aluminum poles offer sturdy, freestanding support without adding much weight to your pack. Reflective guy lines help to further secure the Lightning and provide visibility when returning to your tent after dark. The single, large stash door is completely removable, allowing you to shave weight in warm, clear weather.

A dye-free optic white canopy makes the interior of the Lightning 2 more livable by transmitting natural light more effectively. This feature really shines on long, rainy days spent inside the shelter of your tent. The Lightning's fabrics have been treated with Sierra Designs Tent Guard with Ultra Fresh, ensuring protection against mold and mildew and extending the life of the tent. Environmentally-friendly PVC-free seam tape protects the interior of the Lightning 2 from moisture and precipitation.

If you want to travel lighter, the optional footprint, sold separately, can be attached to the tent fly, eliminating the tent body for light and fast warm weather backpacking or camping. In this fast fly configuration, the Lightning weighs a mere 2 lb. 7 oz.
