Product Highlights

The Backcountry Edge 1.0L Platy Bottle has a flexible design that makes it more lightweight, easier to pack and more convenient to use than traditional hard-sided bottles. BPA-free construction is safe, taste-free and easy to refill.

Whether you use the bottle for backpacking, travel or everyday use, you’ll find that the collapsible design allows you to roll up the bottle for space-saving storage. In spite of its lightweight construction, the bottle is tough enough to hold up to extremely cold or hot temperatures. This allows you to put the bottle in the freezer or run it through the dishwasher.

A screw-top closure cap keeps the contents of the Backcountry Edge 1.0L Platy Bottle secure and protects against leaking.

Likes: Lightweight, reusable, packs small when empty, good quality materials.

Dislikes: Can be difficult to clean and completely dry prior to storing - even in the dry state of Colorado, I don't want to store the bottle wet increasing any chance of mold growth.

    4/10/2014

Likes: I fold this bottle up, tuck it into some out-of-the-way place in my pack, and pull it out when I need to get water from a stream for either cooking or drinking (once its been treated). For my purposes, it is ideal. It saves on weight and space, which is paramount for extended backpacking trips. I haven't had mine long, so I can't speak to the long-term durability, but mine has held up great so far.

    Dislikes: its great so far.

  • Benjamin O. Kalamazoo MI
    4/9/2014

  • Clinton S. charlotte NC
    4/4/2014

Likes: Folds flat for easy storage/packing, designed to stand independently when filled with water.

Dislikes: The mouth opening should be a pop-top or bite valve rather than a screw on/off lid.

  • Marshall S. San Antonio TX
    4/2/2014

Likes: Platypus bottle is lightweight and collapsible when empty. You can take a few extra bottle because of just that. You don't have to worry about it breaking. This bottle is built to last.

Dislikes: I would like a big mouth on the Platypus This would make the bottle easier to refill with water and clean. Everyone else I know like it just they way it is.

  • . Middlesboro KY
    3/9/2014

Likes: I was concerned there would be a plastic taste to the water but there was none. This is an excellent little Platy Bottle, especially for the "price" through Backcountry Edge. It's a good size for a quick hike or to the gym.

Dislikes: The small diameter opening of the mouth makes it a little more tedious to fill without spilling, under certain conditions. Considering the weight, size, purpose of design, and "price" this is hardly even worth mentioning.

  • . owensboro KY
    2/26/2014

Likes: Great product. Combine this with the sawyer squeeze water filter for a reliable setup.

Dislikes: Wider than a bottle so it may not fit in certain pockets on your backpack. But it makes up for that when its empty.

  • Anonymous Backcountry Edge Customer
    2/19/2014

Likes: I mainly use nalgenes, but I am really enjoying the Platypus 1L. It's wicked durable for being pliable plastic, and has no funny taste. It has a secure cap which doesn't leak, and that's pretty cool.

Dislikes: Although hot water and soap surely do the trick, I wish I could clean it a little easier.

  • Bryan E. Hope MIlls NC
    2/19/2014

Likes: Lightweight and sturdy. I really like the fact that when empty you can roll it up and save a lot of space. When filled the expandable bottom allows the bottle to stand upright. Nice Product.

  • Nathan C. Wyoming MI
    2/19/2014

Likes: I originally saw this as an easy buy something, and we'll throw in this seemingly disposable bottle in with your order. I now see that it is much more than that. The bottle is very durable, with sturdy seams, and a flat bottom design to facilitate easy filling in the field. The contoured sides make holding this bottle a breeze. Best of all it packs flat and is a mobile ad for Backcountry Edge!

Likes: My first plat bottle. Amazingly light and folds to very compact size. This plat bag just displaced my Nalgene bottle in my pack. Wished I'd bought this bottle first. A must have for backpacking. I'll need a couple more of these!

  • . Georgetown KY
    1/21/2014

Likes: It was free!!! Ok seriously it's a great backup to throw in your pack and weighs almost nothing.

Dislikes: Maybe instead of just offering one size offer 2 that are much smaller as a choice. These would be great to hold something other than just water.

  • Anonymous Backcountry Edge Customer
    1/12/2014

Likes: Very lightweight and easy to pack in a variety of different ways. Can even fold it and place it in pants pocket.

Dislikes: Nothing negative you can say about it

  • Tara M. Hamilton NJ
    1/1/2014

Likes: This is so convenient for bringing into sports stadiums/ concerts etc... where the cost of bottled water is prohibitive and bringing in outside beverages is prohibited. Simply fill inside at a water fountain!

Dislikes: Awkward to completely fill at a shallow bowl style water fountain.

  • Chris A. Hickory NC

    12/3/2013

Likes: It fits well into a backpack and seem to not leak. I use this bottle to refill my other bottles.

Dislikes: I prefer my other water bottle for drinking out of because it fits better in my water bottle holder on my frame pack.

  • Cline W. Helotes TX
    12/2/2013

Likes: I actually like this little bottle. I did not expect to use it much, but have found it nice for short hikes. As I drink the bottle goes away to almost nothing.

Dislikes: Carry options are limited, but this is also a positive because as liquid is used up there is not much to carry.

    Dislikes: kind of small

  • ARLENE W. New Port Richey FL
    11/6/2013

Likes: First it was Free with my order & seems like a good substitute for nalgene bottle while on 4 day backpack. Very lightweight & of course can roll it up when completed.

Dislikes: Did not like screw on cap, would prefer pushpull type. Also no loop area so have to hold onto it if won't fit in side pocket of backpack. Also has small opening since I'll have to pour from Camelbak purifier bottle into this container for day to day hiking.

  • . saint johns MI
    11/6/2013

Likes: Great little fold-able bottle. Rolls up small. Easy to fill. Does not change the taste of the water.

Dislikes: I found a similar product cheaper elsewhere that also included a reinforced hole near the top with a carabiner to attach to your belt. Very handy.

  • Sharon Z. Kalamazoo MI
    10/27/2013

Likes: What a great method to carry water (or beverage of your choice). The Platypous bottle only weighs about 25 grams and, when empty is collapsible. So easy to carry; so easy to store.

I also liked that it was free with my Leki Nordic Walking Starter Kit order.

    10/4/2013

Likes: This bottle rolls up nice and small when not in use and the seams are sturdy and look like they will last a while. When filled with water the design of the bottle promotes a flat bottom so it will stay standing on its own. I originally thought this would be almost disposable but it is well built.

Dislikes: No issues with the product.

  • . Eureka CA
    10/4/2013

Likes: I have used the Platypus brand for over a decade, but since Backcountry Edge wanted to give me this thing for free...I figured "why not?" My first impression is that it is constructed well; I cannot detect any difference in quality between this and the Platypus (other than the obvious logo). I travel internationally at least 5 times a year, staying in small villages where the water is not safe to drink. These bladders are great for air travel, then I just fill them with clean water before heading to the villages. I have also had to drop purification tablets into them in emergencies, and it is easy to tell when the tablet is fully dissolved.

Dislikes: The size of the one I got (for free - so no whining) is a little small. I haven't verified if there is a larger size yet, but if one is available, I would be more apt purchase the bigger one.

Likes: I think being able to have a bottle capable of holding a liter or more is amazing since it can fit in your front pocket or where ever you need it.

Dislikes: I do think the bottle could possibly crack or break after rough usage, however, this could take a while.

  • David F. San Diego CA

Likes: My wife has had one of these for a few years and wouldn't let me use hers for hiking so i got my own. this is now my backup water supply when i feel I'll need extra water between water sources on the trail. Pretty cool since if you don't need to use it not much space or weight is required to carry.

    8/21/2013

Likes: Lightweight, Durable, Stows away when you aren't using it. I don't even use a Camelback resevoir anymore. I carry two of these and don't have to fiddle with hoses or taking the resevoir in and out of the pack.

Dislikes: Since it is a soft bottle, you have to make sure you hold it carefully when you drink out of it or it will spill. I actually like the fact that it is soft though; it folds up when its empty so its not in the way.

Likes: I like the platy bottles for the light weight and packability. So far, no leaks. Can be frozen and used as a makeshift ice pack for emergencies also. No funny plastic taste in my water, either.

Likes: Other than backcountryedge.com putting their logo on this, it is the older style 1 liter platypus bottle. It weighs in at .9 ounces and is amazingly durable. At this price, it is an absolute no brainer.

Likes: When full of water it’s very strong, I actually fell on it and no damage was incurred; when empty its light weight and fits anywhere.
