Product Highlights

Focused on ounce-shaving construction but delivering far greater carrying capability than most packs in its weight class, the innovative Osprey Exos 48 offers streamlined performance for fast-and-light thru-hikes and weekend trips. Despite weighing less than 2.5 pounds even in its largest size, the pack comfortably hauls up to 40 pounds!

An ultra-lightweight 6065 aluminum frame combines with a 3D tensioned breathable mesh backpanel to equip the Exos 48 with support and ventilation. Seamless layered mesh on the Exoform shoulder harness and hipbelt provides comfortable padding at minimal weight. Further enhancing fit, the hipbelt utilizes an ErgoPull closure that draws tension along the top and the bottom of the belt. A height-adjustable slide sternum strap and load-lifter straps allow you to make on-the-go fine-tuning.

Accommodating users of different dimensions, the Exos 48 is available in three sizes: Small fits torsos ranging from 16"-19" in length, Medium fits torsos ranging from 18"-21" and the Large size fits torsos that are between 20" and 23" in length. The storage capacity varies based on size, as well: Small is 2746 cubic inches, Medium is 2929 cubic inches and the Large provides 3112 cubic inches of storage.

The top-loading packbag is accessed through a removable, floating lid with top and under-lid zippered pockets. Stretch mesh pockets on the front and sides of the Exos 48 offer additional organizational options and keep gear and extra layers close at hand. A small dedicated stretch pocket on the Exos 48's shoulder strap is perfect for snacks, energy gels or electronics. Larger zippered pockets on the hipbelt offer quick and easy access to other gear and trail essentials. Removable 7mm side compression straps aid in load transfer and allow you to cinch contents safely in place, but you can leave them at home if they’re not needed on a particular trip. Other features found on the Exos 48 include an ice tool attachment loop, cord tie-off points and integrated, removable straps for lashing a sleeping pad. The integrated FlapJacket protects the main packbag from the elements when you’re using the Exos 48 without the lid and offers top-down compression for stability. The Exos 48 is also compatible with hydration systems (not included).

The Osprey Exos 48 is available in your choice of size and color.

Likes: Light, quite comfortable for the amount of padding it has. Nice features like hip belt pockets, straps for keeping poles in side pockets, extra reinforced loops to hang things from, etc. Removable top section is convenient.

Dislikes: I'm not sure how well the mesh netting will hold up in the long-run. The corners of the frame were digging into my hips. When I packed it to 23 lb total weight, it didn't feel like it was carrying the weight on my hips as well as some other packs.

Likes: This pack is light enough to be used for UL backpacking yet has some nice features retained. First impressions are that it is extremely comfortable on my lower back. Waist belt grabs my hips nicely. Shoulder straps are decent but IMO could be a little wider for slightly more comfort. The side pocket material is a bit on the light side and will take care not to damage. I like the removable top to lighten further and the 2 shoulder strap pouches are handy and designed in a way they don't add a measureable amount of weight. The pack feels good with 20 lbs which is much more than my average weight but I will have to update review when I get a chance to use it on the trail.

Dislikes: The threaded compression straps are a bit fiddly. I would rather see a couple traditional yet lightweight compression straps from back to front. Side pockets could use a sturdier stretch material and no gap at the frame where small items can slip out.
