Product Highlights

Updated for 2009! A favorite among Appalachian Trail thru-hikers and fast-and-light enthusiasts, the Osprey Atmos 65 combines both durability and lightweight performance. A redesigned backpanel improves upon the Atmos 65’s already trail-tested load-carrying capability.

Osprey's AirSpeed Suspension system equips the Atmos 65 with weight-carrying efficiency and breathability. A lightweight aluminum frame works in tandem with twin titanium struts and a 3D tensioned backpanel to provide the ultimate in support, weight distribution, flexibility and comfort. Thermoformed and perforated waffle foam is used in the Atmos 65's harness and hipbelt to further combat heat build-up. The hipbelt further enhances fit by using Osprey's ErgoPull closure that draws tension along the top and the bottom of the belt. A sliding sternum strap and load-lifter straps allow you to fine-tune fit with on-the-go adjustments. To make certain that hikers get the ideal fit, the Atmos 65 is available in three different sizes. The S accommodates torsos less than 18.5" in length, the M accommodates torso lengths ranging from 18"-20.5" and the L is designed for torso lengths that exceed 20".

Designed to comfortably carry 35-50 pounds of gear, the Atmos 65 lends versatility for outings ranging from overnight trips to fast-moving, light-packing week-long adventures. The S Atmos 65 offers 3800 cubic inches of storage capacity and the M and L sizes offer 4000 and 4200 cubic inches, respectively. The main packbag has full top access and a zippered divider between the main compartment and a separate front entry sleeping bag compartment allows for organization of wet and dry gear. When hauling longer items or in need of access between the two compartments, you can unzip the divider and convert the Atmos 65 to a single, large compartment. Dual front pockets are accessed through welded weather-resistant zippers. A welded, stretch woven Nylon pocket on the front of the pack allows you to stash extra layers or other gear. A pocket located inside the floating lid of the Atmos 65 provides yet another organizational option. Side compression straps help you cinch down your load and also serve as lash points for additional gear. Stretch woven side pockets are the perfect place for stashing water bottles or other smaller items.

Other features found on the Atmos 65 include integrated trekking pole loops and removable straps located in front of the sleeping bag compartment that securely stow sleeping pads. An internal lined sleeve and dual exit ports combine to make the Atmos 65 hydration compatible. Zippered mesh pockets on the hipbelt keep snacks and essential items in easy reach.

Constructed of lightweight, durable 210D Twill Velocity Cordura and 160D x 210D Window Ripstop Cordura, the Osprey Atmos 65 is available in your choice of color options.

Review Date: 2/14/2010

Likes: Perfect size for my uses: summer backpacking and winter daytrips. Good accessibility to interior and other compartments. Easy to adjust fit. Comfortable even when fully loaded or with snowshoes attached to back.

Dislikes: No easy way to attach a water bottle holster, which I prefer to internal hydration device. Should have better ways of attaching equipment (e.g. snowshoes) to back or sides of pack.

Review Date: 12/11/2009

Likes: This is a great backpack. The mesh backing makes it comfortable for the long hike. I enjoy the light weight of the back. Its a perfect balance between extreme light weight and comfort. It really is the best of both worlds. Also the pack has lots of pockets including a bottom pouch for the sleeping bag. The atmos 65 is great for the 1 or 2 night trips and also has enough room for trips longer then 2 nights.

Dislikes: I really don't have anything to say negatively about this pack.
