  • . lancaster PA

    Likes: Easy to use!

Dislikes: The bag it comes in has mesh on one side--- great for storage, but in my pack I end up with little dribbles. Ended up using a ziplock Baggie to prevent my things from getting water on them.

  • . Hagerstown MD

    Likes: Small / light weight.

    Dislikes: Pump type.

  • Nathan D. Christiansburg VA

Likes: Works awesome when clean and used with a relatively new ceramic filter. Had it for about a year and took it on a trip and it began clogging and taking FOREVER to filter water. After replacing the ceramic filter, it worked like new again. Fills about a 32 oz bottle in 2-3 minutes when clean.

Dislikes: Ceramic filters are a bit expensive.

  • Mark K. Hudsonville MI

Likes: Its the only one I've ever used. I have nothing to compare it too. Amazing how it produces such nice clean water out of Lake Superior. Worked great.

Dislikes: You will be lucky if you can filter 1 liter of water a minute. I kept my filter clean and it took 2x that long. No complaints though.

  • . Frankfort KY

Likes: It can be serviced in the field. Long filter life.

Dislikes: A little on the heavy side.

  • Marcie C. Cottonwood AZ

    Likes: Relatively simple to use.

Dislikes: The handle is a little flimsy when trying to pump the water.

  • . Carrollton GA

Likes: The life of the filter and the fact that it is easily cleaned/maintained are what sold me on this filtration system. It is well built, made from durable materials and easy to use. Very simple design. Also mates with most bottles.

Dislikes: Weight is something of a negative, but not killer. This is essential gear. Willing to sacrifice a little here for dependability. Had the Platypus filter had the same kind of life, I probably would have gone that route - that's as simple as simple gets.

  • Roger F. Springfield OH

Likes: Bought this for my son in Germany. He is planning on biking and camping in Europe. I already have MSR MiniWorks EX Microfilter and love it. Works really great and nice to have with you when the water is in question..I also bike and camp but in the United States. Wouldn't go out without it..

Dislikes: I don't have any complaints at this time.

  • Anonymous Backcountry Edge Customer

Likes: This is a great little pump. I've used it on two trips now with no problems what so ever. It's easy to clean, easily attaches to nalgene bottle, and fills it quickly. I also use the steri pen to treat the water after filtering.

    Dislikes: Nothing

  • . Hartselle AL

Likes: I have been on several of those "Just around the bend till were there" 20 mile plus hikes in which I did not have enough water for but pushed through anyway. Lights out? Bring on the storm, I've got the Dipping Spoon!

    Dislikes: N/A

  • David S. Long Beach CA

Likes: Great water filter. Leaves the water tasting pure and clean.

Dislikes: A little slow to fill a 32oz bottle, but that may have just been due to my frozen hands.

  • Anonymous Backcountry Edge Customer

Likes: Easily the best filter on the market for the price.

MSR has been the studio standard for years and the MiniWorks Filter is no exception.

It filters nearly everything without the use of batteries or chemicals. And it is completely field serviceable if need be.

In my experience I have never questioned the safety of my water after processing it through the MiniWorks, but if you're worried about bacteria just give the filtered water a quick boil.

The lasting self-sufficiency of this filter far exceeds the hype of newer flashy filters and sterilizers.

Dislikes: There is nothing I do not like.

  • Kaushik G. Boise ID

Likes: I actually got this for my friend, while I got a Katadyn Vario for myself. This a pretty neat product, coming from the MSR stables. Works flawlessly, good durable quality, contoured handle design, reasonable speed of water flow. But, if I am asked to choose between a Katadyn Vario and a MSR MiniWorks, I shall go for a Katadyn Vario at any point of time. Check out my review of Katadyn Vario to know why I consider it as superior.

Dislikes: Pretty good overall, but MSR could beef up its product by including some additional features and better design from that of its competitor - Katadyn (pioneer in water purification field).

  • Dean W. Port Orchard WA

Likes: The pump is a simple design and ready to use. Very few parts and simple to take apart, clean or store. Used for the first time this weekend and worked perfectly.

Dislikes: Nothing..accept the packaging was in pretty bad shape, which had me concerned to whether the pump was damaged. It was not damaged, but BCE should inspect and not send new at cost items in packaging this way----looks bad on the company.

  • Ashley M. flagstaff AZ

Likes: Worked fantastically well! saved us so much weight not having to haul water on our trip

    Dislikes: Nothing

  • Stephen G. Garfield AR

    Likes: Fast, easy filtering

    Dislikes: Nothing

  • Brian B. Weston WI

Likes: This does a nice job. Be aware that in areas where many lakes have a high tannin content (such as central WI) your filter will clog faster. That's not really a product flaw, but rather just something you have to deal with. All filters of this type will have the same issue. You'll just have to clean it a little more.

    Dislikes: Nothing.

  • Gregory M. Orlando FL

Likes: If you want the best at an affordable price - this is it. The MSR brand has been a proven leader because it's simple to operate and very effective. You'll be enjoying a clean drink of water in no time with this unit. It takes up very little space and is easy to maintain. What more could you ask for?

    Dislikes: no dislikes

  • John T. Fort Leonard Wood MO

Likes: If you buy this filter, buy the msr bags that attach right to the filter.
-The filter rocks, attaches right to a nalgene bottle

    Dislikes: Nothing

  • john h. gardendale AL

Likes: sturdy construction. easy to use and works just as described. i have not encountered any of the airlock issues others have described. i think the key is using a prefilter on the intake to limit silting of the filter

Dislikes: a bit heavy but this is not an issue for me.

  • Matthew M. Maryville TN

Likes: Small pack size for an efficient filter. Good for running streams. Still takes a little bit of effort for clean water.

Dislikes: you have to clean the filter often for dirtier water.

  • Anonymous Backcountry Edge Customer

Likes: seems quite easy to use. doesn't take too long to fill up your water bladder. Was excited to use it for our backpacking trip as well as for emergency preparedness.

Dislikes: seems to be working great so far.

  • Lisa E. Wilmington NC

Likes: Lots of well thought out features. Cleanable filter.

Dislikes: Long drying time after using the filter.

  • Anonymous Backcountry Edge Customer

Likes: Does a great job turning out clean water.

Dislikes: A bit on the heavy side. But lighter than water.

  • Robert T. Dallas TX

Likes: Easy to use, and the water was great. I was shocked at how clean it got some pretty murky water.

    Dislikes: Nothing.

  • David M. Waddell AZ

Likes: This was a replacement purchase, as I have owned this product for at least five years. I regularly hike the Grand Canyon. I've been in many situations in which water was questionable at best and this filter has never let me down.

Dislikes: Not sure how you could make it lighter, but I have yet to find a lighter filter that performs like the MiniWorks EX Mictrofilter.

  • larry s. mccormick SC

Likes: have not had the opportunity to use it yet. delivery was on time and product arrived in good condition.

    Dislikes: none

  • alan g. swartz creek MI

Likes: Easy to use and maintain. I like how it attaches directly to my MSR hydration bladder or a wide mouth Nalgene bottle.

    Dislikes: Nothing

  • Michael T. Warrenton VA

Likes: Produces very clean and tasty water. It easily packs away in my pack's side pouch and assembles quickly. The filter also cleans easily.

Dislikes: It takes some physical effort and time to produce a large volume of water. In order to fill two 1.5 L bottles and one 3 L bladder takes about 10 minutes of steady pumping.

  • Anonymous Backcountry Edge Customer

Likes: filter was easy to use and clean. felt sturdy. not a lot of parts to break or misplace. pumped out of a lake that was kind of green hade to clean filter once only took minutes and was back making water. a stream i think is better we pumped out of a stream and had no proplems with it clogging. did not take long to make water and it tasted great.

    Dislikes: cant say anything bad.

  • Anonymous Backcountry Edge Customer

Likes: Took it on the trail for the first time last weekend and decided to try it. Works great! The taste of the water was very surprising, it was better than out of the tap at home. Yet another excellent product from MSR.

    Dislikes: No issues/cons

  • Anonymous Backcountry Edge Customer

Likes: Only used it on one outing so far, but easy to use, easy to maintain, easy to field strip if necessary. Seems to be a great product so far.

Dislikes: Seems to be a little on the heavy side, but its the only filter Ive ever owned, so I dont have anything to compare it to.
