New for 2008! The Mountainsmith Phoenix Recycled internal frame backpack is a high-performance "green" alternative to traditional alpine packs. In addition to its environmentally-friendly, sustainable construction, the Phoenix Recycled provides the technical features and heavy load-hauling capability needed for mountaineering or extended backpacking trips.

Mountainsmith is pleased to be an industry leader in the move towards sustainable construction. Reflecting Mountainsmith's commitment to using reclaimed materials whenever possible, the Phoenix Recycled is constructed of PET Recycled fabric, a material woven from threads produced from 100% recycled plastic beverage bottles. Even the Phoenix Recycled's zippers, buckles and hardware are made of recycled and/or sustainable materials.

The standard volume of the Phoenix Recycled is 4211 cubic inches. By adjusting the height of the pack's lid and using the integrated spindrift collar, capacity can be increased to a voluminous 5675 cubic inches. Front and side compression straps aid in stability, by allowing you to cinch down the pack when not filled to its full capacity.

With a large, load-hauling pack, a supportive suspension system is an absolute must. The Phoenix Recycled features Mountainsmith's Load Dispersion Technology (LDT). Instead of driving all of the weight to your hips, the LDT suspension gives you the ability to control the load and quickly adjust where and how your load rides. Twin lightweight, concave aluminum stays provide optimal weight support and effectively distribute the load. By providing a flexible, central pivot point, the LDT design enhances balance by adjusting to your on-and-off trail movements. The Phoenix Recycled's molded air mesh backpanel increases comfort and support. A broad, pivoting waistbelt is made of dual-density foam and reinforced with plastic. Dual-density foam situates softer foam up close to the body to gently conform to the contours of your hips while firmer foam supports the pack weight and provides additional cushioning. Load-lifter straps and an adjustable sternum strap offer further support and maximize fit.

The packbag of the Phoenix Recycled features top access and a floating lid with a clear map/valuables pocket. In addition to top access, an additional water-resistant zipper provides access to a lower sleeping bag compartment. Mountainsmith's Hypalon A-frame ski attachment straps can be used to lash down skis or snowboards. Multiple lash points and compression straps allow for easy storage and hauling of climbing ropes, trekking poles, ice axes, shovels or other gear. The Phoenix Recycled's internal hydration sleeve, built-in exit port and an integrated sternum strap bite valve catch combine to make the pack hydration system compatible. Canted side pockets provide quick on-trail access to water bottles.

The Mountainsmith Phoenix Recycled offers optimal fit for torsos ranging from 17" to 20" in length.
