New for 2013! Many lightweight packs skimp on support features and achieve weight-savings by sacrificing on carrying comfort. The minimalist Mountainsmith Haze 50 weighs less than 2 pounds but still boasts a surprisingly supportive suspension system.
The Haze 50 utilizes an innovative suspension system that provides anatomical support and allows freedom of movement for on-trail hauling and off-trail scrambling. An EVA framesheet offers excellent load support while allowing airflow to combat heat build-up. Ensuring an appropriate fit for users of varying proportions, the Haze 50 is available in two sizes. The 3050 cubic inch capacity Small/Medium fits torso lengths ranging from 15"-18" and the Medium/Large (3234 cu in) size accommodates 18"-22" torsos. A pivoting, wrap-around design in the adjustable dual-density waistbelt shifts weight into the lumbar region for a stable, evenly distributed load. Integrated load-lifter straps and an adjustable sternum strap further enhance fit.
The Haze is not a traditional “lidded” pack. Instead, the top-loading packbag has a weight-saving cinch closure with compression strap overlays to ensure that contents are safe and secure. Dual vertical pockets on the face of the pack serve as additional places to store and organize gear. Side compression straps with quick release hardware allow you to cinch down your load or lash other gear to the exterior of the pack.
Other features found on the Haze 50 include ice axe and trekking pole loops, daisy chain gear attachment loops and side mesh water bottle pockets. A lined internal sleeve and built-in exit port make the Haze 50 hydration system (sold separately) compatible.
