Product Highlights

Many lightweight packs skimp on support features and achieve weight-savings by sacrificing on carrying comfort. The minimalist Mountainsmith Haze 50 weighs less than 2 pounds but still boasts a surprisingly supportive suspension system.

The Haze 50 utilizes an innovative suspension system that provides anatomical support and allows freedom of movement for on-trail hauling and off-trail scrambling. An EVA framesheet offers excellent load support while allowing airflow to combat heat build-up. Ensuring an appropriate fit for users of varying proportions, the Haze 50 is available in two sizes. The 3050 cubic inch capacity Small/Medium fits torso lengths ranging from 15"-18" and the Medium/Large (3234 cu in) size accommodates 18"-22" torsos. A pivoting, wrap-around design in the adjustable dual-density waistbelt shifts weight into the lumbar region for a stable, evenly distributed load. Integrated load-lifter straps and an adjustable sternum strap further enhance fit.

The Haze is not a traditional "lidded" pack. Instead, the top-loading packbag has a weight-saving cinch closure with compression strap overlays to ensure that contents are safe and secure. Dual vertical pockets on the face of the pack serve as additional places to store and organize gear. Side compression straps with quick release hardware allow you to cinch down your load or lash other gear to the exterior of the pack.

Other features found on the Haze 50 include ice axe and trekking pole loops, daisy chain gear attachment loops and side mesh water bottle pockets. A lined internal sleeve and built-in exit port make the Haze 50 hydration system (sold separately) compatible.

Likes: Super light weight. At under 2# for a 50L pack it really help shed pounds off my load. Very good weight distribution; I carried a pack load of 25.6# (including the Haze) to test the comfort and ratings. I was very comfortable for pretty much all of a 6 hour hike. The tube pockets in the front are great for a minimalist pack, the side mesh pockets are huge. It just feels like a durable pack and Ive carried Kelty, High sierra and north face and I would say its comparable in may respects.

Dislikes: Starting at the top; the dust cover is tiny, when rolled i can't it serving much purpose unless you really max out the pack (good luck staying under 30# and filling a 50L to the top. I would consider taking it out and shedding a couple oz. if I didn't have to cut it out. No load lifters; not a deal breaker as you can adjust load via snugging up the waist belt and loosening shoulder straps but i did miss them a little. I am a 32 waist and got the S/M I had the waist belt totally cinched up with no more to go. It seemed as If I loose even an inch off my waist the belt will be nearly useless. This is a little concerning and probably the biggest issue I have right now.

Likes: First impressions on this pack: I love the look, it is definitely a ultra light pack, it is 50l all for a great price.

Dislikes: No zipper so possible leakage through the top load

Likes: I have been on the hunt for a light-weight backpack and I think I finally found it. This pack is very comfortable, with the hip belt performing beautifully. The materials and workmanship are high quality, and I like the two front pockets.

Dislikes: The pack doesn't have load lifters, and I miss those. Only one side of the hip belt has a pocket and it is small. Since I like the pack a lot, I am going to buy a third party hip belt pocket. Don't like to spend the extra $$, but it is worth it to me for this pack.

Likes: I liked that this pack was lightweight, affordable, so far durable and seems to be made of a solid construction.

At first I wasn't sure about the closure straps and buckle system. But it has grown on me and I find it very easy to operate.

Its comfortable, and has space for all of my gear.

I've worn this pack once for an overnighter/hike. It performed to my expectations.

Dislikes: I would have liked to see a lid, but it's not a deal breaker as the absence of the lid makes it all the lighter.
