Updated for 2013! The versatile, panel-loading Mountainsmith Approach 40 backpack has the organizational and performance features you need for weekends in the backcountry, technical day hiking and extended travel.
Ensuring load-hauling performance, the Approach 40 has rugged suspension features found usually only on large capacity backpacks. A single aluminum stay and PE framesheet work in tandem with a compression molded backpanel to provide load stability by transferring weight to the Approach 40's padded, removable waistbelt. The fit of the suspension adjusts to accommodate torso lengths ranging from 15"-19". Adjustable shoulder straps, load-lifter straps and an adjustable sternum strap further enhance fit and comfort.
The Approach 40 incorporates a number of convenient access features. A throw-open zippered front panel provides full access to the interior of the 2380 cubic inch packbag. A large compartment in front of the main packbag features internal organization sleeves and a fleece-lined optics pocket. This front compartment has expandable storage space tucked between it and the main pack body. This design is ideal for stashing extra layers. A smaller, zippered front pocket and large zippered side pockets provide additional organizational option. Other features include multiple gear attachment loops and trekking pole mounts.
The Mountainsmith Approach 40 day pack is available in your choice of color options.
