Product Highlights
Updated for 2009! Yet another example of cutting-edge Mountain Hardwear technology, the innovative single-hub pole design of the Viperine 3 creates a 3-person, 3-season backpacking tent with exceptional roominess. The verticality achieved by this pole construction allows the walls of the Viperine 3 to stand erect, maximizing the usability of the interior of the tent.
Mountain Hardwear's ground-breaking construction lends freestanding structure to the Viperine 3 and helps to increase durability and resistance to poor conditions. Clip construction makes it easy to connect the fabric body of the Viperine 3 to the lightweight Atlas 7001 aluminum single-hub pole. Mountain Hardwear further ensures performance with its patented Guaranteed Watertight Construction. The fully-taped seams and welded construction of each model of Mountain Hardwear tent are tested in a custom-made "rain room" which subjects the tent to 1200 inches of wind-driven rain over the course of 24 hours.
The Viperine 3 offers over 43 square feet of usable interior space. A vestibule provides 14 square feet of additional sheltered space for storing gear or wet, muddy boots. Extensive mesh construction on the door, walls and canopy of the Viperine 3 improves ventilation and combats the build-up of condensation. An integrated rainfly window provides a view to the outside and increases livability, especially on dreary days when you're forced to spend the day inside your tent. Reflective highlights and guy out loops provide visibility for those times when you need to set up after dark.
The 6 pound 10 ounce minimum weight of the Mountain Hardwear Viperine 3 is easily shared between two backpackers. For faster, lighter travel in warm weather conditions, you can attach the compatible, custom-fit footprint (sold separately) to the tent fly, leave the tent body at home, and reduce the packed weight of the Viperine 3 to just 5 pounds 4 ounces.
